Not trying to be a spoiler but when I bought my 62" HDTV 1 1/2 years ago the guy who owned the store I bought from told me not to buy a DLP that had rotating/pivoting mirrors. The one I have has no moving parts.

Just passing on a sale I found. Doesn't hurt my feelings if somebody has useful info against it.

When I go HDTV shopping I will be looking for all kinds of opinions from the board.

I paid $2,975 for mine. It's a good deal as long as the moving parts don't take a dump after the first year.

Is it really worth paying extra for 1080p? From the research I did movies are filmed at a speed/quality that isn't up to 1080p standards.

HDTV is broadcast at 780p/1080i (I don't know what it is but I want it.)

I may be wrong, there are many differing opinions on standards. If you figure that it will take 5-7 years for the broadcasters to catch up to HD (1080i - 780p) then why pay for 1080p?

The difference between the i and p is the refresh speed. That is important for sports. CBS only broadcasts 1/2 their games in HD currently.

It will be a while before they upgrade their equipment to p (also takes much more bandwidth on the satellites.)

Save your $ and get a 1080i and a DVD player with HD upconverting (less than $100.) You won't be disappointed.

Movies in the theatre are played at much higher resolutions than 1080p.

The screen is bigger too. Look at a BlueRay set-up (the TV will be $600 more and the DVD player will be $400 more) vs.a 1080i with a DVD player upconverter and tell me you can see a 30% better difference.

That is what it will cost you.

From the research I did movies are filmed at a speed that makes the difference between the 2 un-noticeable.

The advantage will be when they broadcast sporting events in 1080p. That will be years.

Future-proofing. Game systems can take advantage of 1080p, too.

And the only game system that can support P is the PS3 right now. It is not like Microsoft or Nintendo is going to be rushing out a whole new system just to take advantage of 1080P.

P (Progressive Scan) has more advantages then just gamin. It is better on action sequences and sports as well. Fox and ESPN HD both broadcast right now in 720p (CBS does too I believe). NBC, ABC, NFLTV all broadcast in 1080i.

Currently there is no one broadcasting natively in 1080p though that should eventually change.

The main reason for going with a 1080p set is for the future as well as for HD-DVD and BlueRay discs... however that requires more investment.

That price on that TV is fantasticly amazing. I love my Samsung DLP, it is still the most impressive HDTV to my eyes that I have seen (720p).
