Bob Dole got really irritated this morning when he read
The Indians, who moved into a tie atop the AL Central with Minnesota, may not lose for awhile. They have one game left against the Royals and three against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays...
on ESPN.com. While there may be a lot of truth to the statement, common courtesy would dictate that you wouldn't come right out and print it. (There was a similar statement in yesterday's recap, as well.)

It probably doesn't help any that one of Bob Dole's co-workers is from Cleveland and walks in every morning and says, "How 'bout them Royals?"

Bob Dole is thrilled that Bob Dole will be able to ask that same question tomorrow morning.

I haven't checked on the Royals for a day or two now, did they beat the Injuns? I'm assuming from this that they did.

That was a fun game to listen to. All kind of hits off the wall! The ones from the Royals went for extra-bases. The Indians Cordova got one but Dye (perhaps the best athlete in KC right now) picked it off the ground bareheaded and fired it to second, holding Cordova to a single. I love Jermaine Dye. Don't even think about running on that man's arm!

Go Royals!

Hear hear!!

And yes, the Royals kicked Cleveland's arse tonight.

Looks like they might be waking up (finally). Too bad they're already out of the divisional race...

The Tigers and the Sox are also waking up. Man, I wish that baseball had something of the structural economics that football has in terms of competitiveness. The AL Central has loads of great players and it would be very fun to watch the teams slug it out on a more even footing.

Hot D@mn!

I was in KC this past weekend during the whole "cookies and milk" bit. I was glad to see them pull it together and when on Sat. and figured they would hold that and beat the twinkies on Sun. But that was just wishful thinking on my part.

BTW, what is everyones thoughts on the cookies and milk thing?

Hader, I think it was just a typical hard-nosed old-school comment by a throwback manager, and the vultures in the media smelled blood...

Nothing more, nothing less.

In any event, it gave the KC media something to talk about, because the Royals on the field sure haven't been very interesting so far...

Muser was right on with his comments.

But he still needs to be fired. The entire point of his statement was that the team lacked toughness. So tell me Tony, what qualities have you been instilling in these guys the last few years?

His contribution to Sweeney's development is one of Muser's biggest accomplishments as a manager, so it was definitely strange that Muser would make a comment that could so easily be construed as a criticism of Sweeney. As fierce a hitter and as good a person as Sweeney is, he can eat all the milk and cookies he wants as far as I'm concerned!

Muser's losing his grip. The clock is ticking on him, that's for sure. I think he'll be replaced within a year.

Rob Neyer had some interesting things to say in his April 19 column on ESPN.com, and Bob Dole tends to agree with him.
Unfortunately, Tony Muser shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a pitching staff. If I had a son who pitched in Little League, I wouldn't let him play for a team managed by Tony Muser. If Tony Muser and I co-managed a Rotisserie team, I would send him out for cold beverages when it came time to bid on pitchers. If I were a pitcher, and Tony Muser and I were stranded on a desert island ... well, you get the idea.
The pitching has been absolutely horrendous, with no visible improvement year to year. Granted, the Royals don't have the payroll to hire an elite closer, but it doesn't take an elite closer to not blow 50% of your save opportunities.

This year has been slightly better, but Bob Dole was watching the gamecast last night and still had the "Oh no, not again..." thoughts when the bottom of the 9th rolled around and the Indians had men on 1st and 3rd with one out. (Sort of the same feeling we've had the past few seasons when the Chiefs' opponent got the ball with less than 2 minutes remaining and was less than 7 points down...)

I loved the tequila thing ... of course, I like tequila. But his statement was true: The Royals need a tougher attitude. They need to go into every game with a big 'ol chip on their shoulder.

And it would help if Randa would come around and, like the post from the Senator implies, keep Muser the hell away from the pitchers!! Honestly, Bottaliblow sucked the last two years and now he is doing great as a set-up man in Philly. The Royals don't have one pitcher that makes you say "Wow. He's got good stuff." And it drives me nuts.

Quisenberry is rolling over in his grave every time a Royals reliever takes the mound.

I used to listen to "The Royals on Radio" 15 years ago. That was always my favorite on a hot summer night with a thunderstorm brewing.

Who's calling the games now?
