Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Cape Fear was great with Deniro. Love that flick. "Come out come out wherever you are...."

I like the part when he goes to the movies and lights up his stogie and just starts laughing excessively loud.

Didn't really care for it. Of course it was provocative, but that doesn't equate to good cinema. I'd say that Spike Lee did a great job in creating an antihero in Mookie, but I'm not a true believer in authorial intent. The only thing that matters is what is conveyed through the text.

Sal, Da Mayor, and Pino where the only redeemable characters in the entire film. I'm sure that some would criticize Da Mayor for tomming for the way that he cleaned up the outside of the parlor at the beginning, or for attempting to quell the coming riot after Radio Raheem was killed. Although I can see the argument for the first, I don't at all see that for the second.

Furthermore, I find Spike Lee's assertion that the destruction of the pizzeria in order to save Sal and his kids to be preposterous. Yeah the cops crossed a line and should be prosecuted, and they weren't targeting Pino and Raheem, just Raheem, but Sal isn't the cops, and the mob equating Sal to the cops shows a reprehensible amount of bigotry.

But generally, that's what Spike Lee films intend to do--they want to show a story of bigotry, and instead the vast majority of the bigotry that is shown is that of the filmmaker.

Then again, maybe I'm guilty of some revisionist history since I viewed this after seeing the vile homophobic tripe that was She Hate Me. I guess I see Spike as the vailpass of American cinema.
liked it @ the time, @ that pt. in time it was a reshaping thing for brothaman. It's cool though, I get it.

Glengarry Glen Ross is one great film!

Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin, Jack lemon, Ed Harris and Alan Arkin all work in a boiler room trying to sell real estate. HDNET on Directv shows it every few months. The first time I saw it, there was so much to comprehend I only gave it 7 Stars. However, it stuck in my head and a few months later when they re-aired it, I was blown away that time. I looked for a copy at every store, and nobody stocked it. I found it on Amazon, 2 disc version for only $6 and got a copy. I've showed it to two other friends and they both wanted a copy. I could almost say that Jack Lemon steals the film, but they're all great, but he turns in a remarkable performance.

It's probably one of the best cast movies I've ever seen, if not the best.

As much as I love Glengarry Glen Ross, every time I hear it mentioned I think of this:

I love going to rent movies with my dad. We both rent four for the week, then swap. It's like getting eight for the price of four. Of course, I'm sure he's just dying to watch Made of Honor...lol.

Anywho. Now, I've got Swing Vote, The Express, Hellboy 2, and Babylon AD. I'm trying to decide if I want to watch Swing Vote or The Express first.
