Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

So if my last post had a point it was to try and reclaim some ethos.
Holy shit. I gotta quit posting late at night. My post made no sense. My bad.

The point I was trying to make was that "industrial corn" is not inedible. It just happened to come with a healthy dose of reading comprehension FAIL.

To be fair, there is an obvious dichotomy between the two to the point where you might as well consider them different species rather than just different cultivars.

I could get behind that. It'd be good for consumers if that shit could no longer be called "corn" at all.

Consumer: "So I'm not eating corn sugar and corn-fed beef after all?"

Industry, begrudgingly: "No, you're eating the processed products that come from a flavorless kernel of chemicals -- of which we own the sole rights and patents to -- that has a net nutritional value in the negatives. It isn't corn, it's [insert chemical equation like name here]."

Consumer: "**** that. Where's the farmer's market?"

Exactly. The original maize plant had a very high germ content (lots of protein). Today's corn, which whether we like it or not, is the main ingredient in everything we eat, is almost entirely starch. It's almost like turning a steak into white bread and equating them.

Local grown sweet corn is some of the most amazing food you'll eat. Peaches and Cream was always my favorite.

With that said, I'm not overly optimistic that it would cause any dietary changes. Said food companies have advertising budgets that are just way too big, and the average consumer is just too damned dumb.

I just watched Rampage. It was a pretty mediocre film, but holy shit, it is the massacre to end all massacres.

I also saw 8mm for the first time last night, and re-watched The Warriors. Thoughts?
