stole this from another site......pretty long & interesting read:
MU-KU - Tale of the Tape - LONG Ok. I don't post here much, but I'm here reading everyday. I'm bored as hell tonight and I'm f'ing sick of all of the love that KU is getting. So I set out to expose what you and I already know. Their schedule is PATHETIC and any "balance" that they have is gained through beating up on punching bags. I didn't even realize that they played 4 straight cupcakes at home to start. I think this shows each teams body of work and what they have accomplished on the field. Now, Kansas is a good team, there is no doubting that anymore. They don't beat themselves and we will have to play our absolute best game next Saturday to beat them. We will have our hands full stopping that Offense. That said, here is the numbers breakdown for each game. I just looked at points and yards for/against, and turnover margin. I'll break each teams games down into Gimme's and "big games". KU's and MU's stats will be listed first. You will also notice we've played a few more "big ones". Ole Miss being a big game could be argued, but I feel anytime you go on the road in the SEC in week 2 it's big. Anyways....KU first. GAYHAWKS Gimme's 1. Central Michigan 52-7 538-294 +2 2. SE Louisana 62-0 501-75 No turnovers 3. Toledo 45-13 557-251 +1 4. FIU (Who?) 55-3 615-255 +2 5. @ Baylor 58-10 447-202 +5 6. Iowa State 45-7 566-234 +1 BIG GAMES 1. @ KSU 30-24 437-363 even 2. @ CU 19-14 333-353 +1 3. @TAMU 19-11 407-318 +1 4. NUBS 76-39 572-484 +5 5. @ OKLA ST 43-28 529-471 +4 MISSOURI GIMMES 1. Western Michigan 52-24 619-372 +1 2. Illinois St 38-17 581-397 -2 3. Iowa St 42-28 366-389 even BIG GAMES 1. Illinois, neutral 40-34 429-435 +3 2. @ Ole Miss 38-25 548-534 +2 3. nubs 41-6 606-297 +1 4. @ OU 31-41 418-384 -2 5. Texas Tech 41-10 422-388 +2 6. @ CU 55-10 598-196 +2 7. TAMU 40-26 555-380 even 8. @ KSU 49-32 427-406 +3 Now, margin of victory against their cupcakes is 52.83 - 6.6 in points. 537.3 - 178.83 in yards. And they are +10 in turnovers. In their "big games" it is still good but much lower. 37.4 - 23.2 in points, 455.6 397.8 in yards. And they are +11 turnover margin. These stats are a bit skewed b/c of the Nebraska beatdown. It's apparant to me that they have struggled to win in every other one of thier "big ones". Now, a win is a win and they certainly have done that. Also, it made me feel dirty looking through all of their box scores. I will promptly take a shower after this. On to Mizzou. We struggled a bit more against our gimmes. 44 - 23 in points, 522 - 386 in yards and -1 in turnover margin. We are probably lucky we didn't lose one of these. In the big games Mizzou has showed thier stripes so to speak. 41.8 - 23 in points, 500.3 - 377.5 in yards. And +11 in turnover margin. Summary? KU gets alot of attention for that NEB game. They kicked their ass and never let up. That is thier signature win for sure. However, I don't understand how everyone just writes off thier first 4 games against JV teams. Also, how can all of thier close victories not be taken into account? It baffles the mind. I have alot more confidence after doing this breakdown. I think it is pretty clear that MU gets up for the big ones. If it weren't for that little letdown in Norman we'd be number 1 in the nation right now. We've played everyone they have and beat them worse, outside of ISU. We dominated NU much more thoroughly as well. Our guys should rest easy knowing that they are battle tested. KU might come out tight after a whole week of everyone sucking them off and basically handing them this victory already. Can we play it already? |

I don't even care about strength of schedule anymore. I think both teams have proved that they belong in the top 5.

Ehhh....if you put then in the SEC or the Pac you're looking at probably teams with 4 losses.

KU and MU are going to play...all the fanboy smack is pointless...it will be settled on the field
and if KU were to beat MU and OU then no one could complain... nobody is going to sneak into the championship...so change your diapers and pop a Zima...

With all the complaining about the BCS, this is one time where two highly ranked teams get to settle it on the field.. and one team will get to prove itself twice in the next couple of weeks. There's no point in spending hours trying to figure out who the best team is on paper. |

It's still difficult to go thru that many games without a letdown. Nevertheless, KU will get their chance to prove if they're for real in the next two weeks. If they crash and burn then you can give them crap for their schedule, but IMO it's irrelevant at this point.

Apparently no one watches those teams play because a mid level team in the SEC like Kentucky is better than most of the Big 12....teams like SC, Cal and Oregon when they are healthy is better than basically the entire Big 12.
