NFBT: PS2 Games

Just purchased GranTurismo3...Must say, HOLY *&#$, this game kicks arse! :D

I also purchased the 'Rumble Pack' for a mere $4.99. It contains approximately 10 demos for up-and-coming games. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing this DVD! ATV (4x4 game) and StarWars: StarFighter are two of the coolest new releases - both are featured on this demo-pack.

Gauntlet is also featured - but this Gauntlet is more than just a re-visitation of the old arcade classic! The graphics are incredible - and the gameplay is intense.

Just wanted to give my fellow PS2 gamers a heads-up... the kick-arse titles are starting to flow into the stores! :D

Pretty soon, the Linux package should be developed and released in the US. It will have a hard drive, network card, keyboard and mouse - turning your console into a 128bit online gaming beast. :)

Gauntlet: Dark Legends is AWESOME...highly addictive...

I though GT3 Aspec SUCKED...it's not a racing game, it's a "driving simulation"...

Graphics aren't everything, and the gameplay on this beast borders on hyper-boring...

I'm waiting for Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid 2 to hit the shelves.

If you want a kick-arse racing game, check out Midnight Club Racing.

IMO Madden 2001 and SSX are still the 2 best games available.
"driving simulation"
Really? I always think of games such as Nascar and IndyCar(EA titles) for the PC as 'simulators'. They use real-world physics and model damage, etc. GT3 is in the arcade style - pretty & fun, w/o a big learning curve.

I really enjoy this one - and I'm not much on racing games usually.

"To each his own" I guess :)

If you liked RPG's (Zelda) than you will like Dark Cloud. I really enjoyed it. Kept me busy for weeks. I want that Gran Turismo game, it looks incredible. I know the graphics are good, but how is the driving controll? Is it acurate and realistic?

bishop - I think so. I hear it is awesome if you use a force-feedback steering-wheel. I just use the DualShock analog controllers. Gotta be careful on those turns... and Rally-car dirt tracks! :)

PS/2 ROCKS!!! Are you guys looking in to getting the X-Box and the game cube too??? I want one because the majority of the games will not cross platforms, but I don't want to spend another $300 on a dud sytem that is only going to have 50 games available for it.

Before the Gran Turismo series came out, my biggest beef with 'racing' genre games was the fact that there was no skill involved. Basically all one had to do was mash down whatever button or control device that was the accelerator and then forget anything but left or right.

That's not so with any of the GT series. You have to drive the car and obviously since you cannot feel the G's or the wind in your hair, it's that much more challenging. While it may seem boring to some, taking the perfect line in a Viper on the Trial Mountain track, to me, is quite challenging.

Friends of mine that are not big 'gamers' like to challenge me to races and I'll take the Mini Cooper or something similar and I'll let them have the fastest car they want. About 8 out of 10 times I can beat them if the race is more than 5 laps.

I've found GT3 to be much more realistic as far as accelerating and braking than GT2. The graphics are excellent and are so good that most of the tracks that are in the previous version dont even look the same.

Unlike others, I cant stand the 'shoot em up' games that are very pervasive in most systems. Like Quake or Doom or whatever, that stuff sucks to me because theres no skill involved. Just run around and shoot.

Thanks Bishop!

I've been looking closely at Dark Cloud and waiting for Destiny Warriors 3.

On a different note, I pre-ordered MADDEN 2002 yesterday! I can't wait until it hits. If you guys want to see how much better it's gonna be than last year, check this out:

They fixed the DBack animation so that they don't always end up out of position. They fixed the WR animation so they make more 2-hand grabs and less 1-hand grabs. They added a bunch of player movement for more realistic tackles, blocking, and rushing.

I can't wait...

Personally, the PS2 hasn't impressed me much...

I was dissapointed with how LITTLE the games PS2 have gone a step above the DREAMCAST. One of the few upsides of Sega over the years is it's variety of game types. Sea man and games like it are highly addictive, and are different than anything out there. I had hoped Sony would go this route after Sea man stretched out the life expectancy of the Sega for about another year...almost dead now.

I loved GT3, and that's saying a lot after I HATED both 1 and 2...I love the graphics, i DO find it challenging, and i LOVE that I can buy my Civic SI on the game. My own car, and of course, just interested to see how far it would take me! :D

Titus and HC:

What I disliked about GT3 was that not all cars and tracks were available right off the bat. Yes, the graphics are awesome and the physics are perfect.

But that lame-*** "campaign mode" just sucks. Personally, I would like to just drive cars and stuff and see how it feels. Having to drive over and over on "the oval" just to gain money so I can buy a better car is TERRIBLY BORING...

Brad,

Be patient...the good titles are starting to come out just now.

If you look at the slate of titles for the Playstation 1 within 6 months after release, and compare it to the slate of available game 18 to 24 months after release, you'll see that the "variety" of games you spoke of wasn't unique to the Dreamcast...

Try playing against a human opponent sometime, there's certainly a fair amount of skill involved. Although, I make it a point to play these types of game on the PC only, not on the console.

Honestly, I've played just about every game out there. I play RPGs, sports, racing, fighting, shooters, action, everything.

The best games I've played so far for the PS2 are Gauntlet, Madden 2001, and SWING AWAY GOLF.

Htismage

Don't get me wrong, I have a PS2 and a Dreamcast. Dreamcast had some amazing ideas (internet gaming, VMU units, mp3 capability, cable modem capability, and eccentric games) and I'd hoped that the PS OR X-BOX would pick up where they left off.

PS2 is gaining momentum, but so far not much. The garbage with hardware shortages almost led me to not purchasing one at all, and when I did the price tag and the poor DVD choices really ticked me off.

I hate Gates, but I'll probably but his product and help make him the first world dictator...:(

Parker, Im sorry I wasnt clear. I do play against human opponents in games like these--Quake in particular. The only 'skill' involved is keeping up with another guy and killing him.
After 30 minutes it gets very old. Run around and Shoot--what else can you do besides make your own maps?

I too have played a variety of genres and the only one that has really kept my interest are football and the GT series. My next door neighbors swear by Medal of Honor and Im hoping to check that out soon.
