Alex Gordon Gets his Name on his Wood

10 PLAYERS SIGN BAT CONTRACTS WITH LOUISVILLE SLUGGER®

LOUISVILLE, KY - (April 14, 2008) The Official Bat of Major League Baseball®, Louisville Slugger®, has signed ten more players to bat contracts including Dustin Pedroia of the World Champion Boston Red Sox and Troy Tulowitzki of the National League Champion Colorado Rockies.

They and the other new Louisville Slugger signees join the more than eight-thousand professional baseball players who have been under contract with Louisville Slugger, dating back to the great Honus Wagner who was the first to sign in 1905. Eighty percent of the hitters in Baseball’s Hall of Fame and thirteen members of the 2007 Major League Baseball All Star teams were under contract with Louisville Slugger.

The newly signed players are:

Shelley Duncan - New York Yankees
Brett Gardner - New York Yankees
Alex Gordon - Kansas City Royals
Howard Kendrick - Anaheim Angels
Evan Longoria - Tampa Bay Rays
Dustin Pedroia - Boston Red Sox
Juan Pierre - Los Angeles Dodgers
Colby Rasmus - St. Louis Cardinals
Ryan Spilborghs - Colorado Rockies
Troy Tulowitzki - Colorado Rockies

These players’ signatures will grace the barrels of Louisville Slugger bats, as did those of great players like Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Harmon Killebrew, George Brett, Kirby Puckett, Tony Gwynn, and Cal Ripken Jr., to name only a few. Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey, Jr., Manny Ramirez, Jeff Francoeur, Prince Fielder and Jim Thome are among the many current players also under contract with Louisville Slugger. More than 60 percent of Major League Baseball players today swing Louisville Slugger Bats.

“These players know that they have 124 years of bat making experience behind them when they step into the batters box with a Louisville Slugger bat,” said Louisville Slugger Pro Baseball Division Manager Chuck Schupp. “They also know that they will have the very best timber available, along with outstanding customer service. We do whatever it takes to make the guys who use our bats happy. That’s the way our company has done business since 1884.”

Louisville Slugger bats are made by Hillerich & Bradsby Co. of Louisville, Kentucky. H&B produces 1.8 million wood bats per year and 1.5 million TPX and TPS aluminum, composite, and hybrid bats for amateur baseball, slow pitch softball, and fastpitch softball.http://www.slugger.com/press/08-players-signed.html
