Father lets 8 year-old girl cry through 40 minutes of Batman movie

Our department took a field trip today to see the Dark Night movie, I arrived late so I had a seat by myself in the last row of the theater.

About 2/3 through the film after one of the huge explosion/demolition scenes, this little girl about 8 years old starts crying to her dad "Daddy I don't like this."

She then cried, sobbing and shaking and sniffing uncontrollably into his armpit for the final 40 minutes of the movie. He shooshed her and patted her back a lot, but never considered leaving.

I sat there in rage NOT because the girl was making noise, but because her idiot dad wouldn't realize that the poor girl was in hell and he was too selfish to take her out of there.

I tried to get his attention a couple times, but didn't want to start a scene in the middle of the film. It was like witnessing abuse. It really F'd me up.

After the movie ended I lost him in the crowd but finally caught him outside and stopped him and away from his kids I calmly said,

"Was it worth it? Did you really have to see the rest of the movie? Did you have to put your daughter through hell because you wanted to see the rest that bad?"

"well, if I knew she was going to cry I would not have brought her.."

"Yeah, but once she's sitting there crying, take her out of there. That was a bad movie for kids. It's not worth it. It's never worth letting your kid suffer. You owe her an apology, and you'd better do whatever she wants for the rest of the weekend because you need to fix this and let her know she's important because she's gonna have nightmares about this. You're a better dad than that...be better, okay?"

I was really, really, angry about it. I guess hearing kids in pain and people doing nothing about it is about one of the most upsetting things for me.

Anyway, just had to get that off my chest. My dad took me to Dawn of the Dead when I was 9 and I had nightmares for 4 years. So, maybe I have a personal connection to this.

It just really changes my perspective about what I'll do when my kids "inconvenience me." I've shooed them out of the room during football when I could have just paused it and taken five minutes to interact with them and catch back up while the team loses. It isn't worth it.

Kids only get one chance to grow up.

Yeah, screw the movie. The kid is more important than anything else. He should have known she was not ready for that movie in the first place. I haven't even seen it yet and I know not to take my younger kids to it at all. And yes, they have already asked to go.

Something tells me that he was thinking about Batman Begins: If I take my daughter out because she's scared, I'll probably be shot by a two-bit thug walking back to the car.

You've been watching the Chiefs wayyyyyyyy too long buddy.

Seriously though, you did the right thing. Hopefully the jackass learned something from your chit chat, because that is terrible.

I've got two nephews and a niece, and I've found that if they are in serious emotional or physical pain, I can't stand to hear them cry. Whining is a different story, but if they are really hurting, it hurts my heart. I just want to fix them all up.

Nice non-confrontational approach. Hopefully it will make him think hard about it.

He might have been able to leave early and get a refund if he went to a Manager and explained the situation?

I had nightmares from watching Ghostbusters II in a theater in England with my dad when I was 6, Sigourney Weaver was hellish. Fortunately these movies no longer scare me.

I would cry and put up a tantrum if my parents made me see at a Donk's game at invesco field.

I would hold my breath until i turned blue, kick and scream, beller like a little bitch.

You know, act like Claythan.

I left after watching the whole thing, complained to the manager that I didn't like it after all the hype, and got a free movie pass so I can go see it again for free!!!!111123
