Hillary Fans will go ballistic-Now Dems wont even bother to count ballots

Delegates begin casting ballots for president
By NEDRA PICKLER

Democratic delegates began marking their presidential nominating ballots Wednesday, making the unprecedented choice between a black man and a white woman. But only a limited number of the ballots were expected to be counted in an afternoon roll call before Barack Obama was declared the party's presidential nominee by acclamation.

With the convention balloting just hours away, delegates still were waiting to hear which states would participate in the roll call before it was cut off in unanimous support for Obama. The abbreviated vote was the result of a deal between Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton so that some of her backers could express their support without dragging out a divided process.

The deal was short on specifics, though. Delegates still were not clear which states would get to participate in the roll call. State delegation chairs were simply instructed in a joint letter from Clinton and Obama advisers to distribute ballots to delegates Wednesday morning and return them no later than 4 p.m., when voting is scheduled to get under way. Jeff Berman, Obama's delegate coordinator, told The Associated Press floor demonstrations for both candidates would be allowed.

Sonja Jaquez Lewis, a Clinton delegate from Boulder County in Colorado, said she and others may walk out if Clinton is denied a roll call.

"If we don't have an official roll call vote state-by-state, it is going to reopen a wound," said Lewis, adding that she would do whatever Clinton asks of her delegates.

Clinton planned to meet with her delegates a few hours before an afternoon session where both she and Obama would be nominated. She has said she will vote for Obama, but not tell her delegates how to vote.

Clinton delegates remained confused Wednesday morning about whether the New York senator would "release" them, which would free them to vote for Obama during the first roll call if they like.

"I don't know if they're going to tell us anything or not," Marie Prezioso told fellow West Virginia delegates at breakfast. Prezioso, who helped Clinton win an overwhelming victory over Obama in the West Virginia primary, told colleagues looking for guidance at the roll call: "You might want to wait until we find out something for sure."

Kathleen Krehbiel, Clinton's Iowa vote-counter, said although Clinton loyalists had not received any specific guidance, she believed most would cast their ballots for Obama. She said she made up her mind to do so after Clinton encouraged support for Obama in a speech Tuesday night.

"I did not want to see a floor fight," Krehbiel said as Iowa delegates received their ballots. "I don't see any further reason to continue to carry out a pretense that she's a candidate. She's not."

But, Krehbiel said, "I think there are a few delegates who need to vote for Hillary to reach that point of closure."

Clinton supporters in the Illinois delegation seemed to be turning Obama's way after hearing Clinton's speech.

"If she can get up there and put everything aside and say she's supporting Barack Obama with her whole heart, then it's up to us to do the same thing," said Clinton delegate Shirley McCombs.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a Clinton supporter, said he understands if some Pennsylvania delegates decide to vote for Clinton, but he'd like them to vote for Obama.

"I still think as a tribute to Senator Clinton I would like to be able to say in the microphone, following the directions of the great senator from New York, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Pennsylvania casts all its votes for Barack Obama," Rendell said, to applause.

The advisers who signed the letter describing the process, Obama's Berman and Clinton's Craig Smith, told Puerto Rico delegates they have been working out of the same office all week to ensure a smooth convention.

In an interview, Berman said convention rules call for the states to be called in alphabetical order to report their roll call votes, beginning with Alabama. However, Berman would not say whether that would happen this time.

It can't be a good thing when the theme of your convention is "A Party Divided".

Not, it's what the party should do, they should unite. But the unity they speak of just it's there.

We don't care, we find it funny of how it was preached of unity and we told you it wouldn't happen.

You also are talking out your ass, but continue. You are speaking from a seat of ignorance, with no actual insight into what is actually occurring.

It looks like they are hiding the delegate vote as to prevent it to be shown how divided the vote is. Am I mistaken?

Speaking of ignorance isn't a little ignorant that the Democrats have been pushing for 8 years of count every vote, every vote should count, to Diabold voting machines is the debil and now they do this count in the back rooms and will not have a full roll call vote.

Hopefully, one of them puma's know Roberts rules, they can force the issue if they have their shit together, they can throw a monkey wrench into the whole convention, tie it up, keep it from concluding on schedule. We will see.
