The Debate

I think the debate was a disaster for McCain. Obama came off very smooth as usual. This was the time to unleash everything you had in a character assasination and all we got was more of the same. I think it was such a big victory for Obama because of what needed to be accomplished here by McCain.

So..McCain ****ed up because he tried to talk the issues instead of a full-on character assasination of Obama?

Or am I reading this wrong?

Like both isn't possible?

I would have like to have seen him talk about going after the CEO's on wallstreet who have broken the law as well.

Other than the fact that doing so would be a complete affront to his record for the last 25 years and 50 months, that would be an excellent strategy, and in no way would have a counterargument that could completely obliterate it.

IMO Obama won the debate on smoothness. McCain sounded like a cranky old guy drinking his morning coffee at the cafe.

Although I agree with much McCain said, he came off old. I think 8 years ago it would have been a much better race.

Obama, ehhh, he talks but never says much. Funny how style trumps substance.

Yes, because Obama never lays out policy proposals, and George Bush was a veritable national archive of substance.

I agree that McCain really seemed old last night. He was shaky and there were a couple of moments toward the end where I thought he might just start rambling incoherently. He was close. It made me wonder if the campaign isn't really wearing on him. McCain is about the same age as my father and there's no way my father could handle that grind for even a couple of weeks, much less for a year. I think all his effort is taking a toll on him.

I'm starting to wonder if he's going to be alive in 5 years. Look how much older he looks compared to even 2000.

Kerry or Gore had no style, if that's what you mean.

Yes, that is in fact the exact opposite of what I meant.

There is no style quite like "You forgot Poland"...it's also substantive.

If you take Rasmussen's Party ID model (39%D,33%R,28%O) and apply it to Zogby's internals, you get a 50-43 lead for Obama in the Zogby poll.

To put it another way--he is the only pollster on Earth who thinks there are more Republicans in America right now than Democrats.

Zogby is taking a chance - hoping he is the only one that is "right" in the end.

It's all about the money.

That or he's adjusting for the Bradley Effect, which isn't entirely illogical.
