Acorn pushes back, hugs McCain



The beleaguered Democratic-leaning community group Acorn sends over this photograph: John McCain, in March of 2006, sitting beside Florida Rep. Kendrick Meek at an event Acorn co-sponsored in Florida.

The immigration event, which other photos show was packed with red-shirted Acorn member, was co-sponsored by the local Catholic Archdiocese, the SEIU, and other groups.

McCain, still spiting much of his party on immigration at the time, was the headliner.

Bertha Lewis, Acorn's chief organizer, said in a statement that came with the photo, “It has deeply saddened us to see Senator McCain abandon his historic support for ACORN and our efforts to support the goals of low-income Americans."

”We are sure that the extremists he is trying to get into a froth will be even more excited to learn that John McCain stood shoulder to shoulder with ACORN, at an ACORN co-sponsored event, to promote immigration reform," she said.

Why is it that every video I see when they are talking about ACORN, that every person they register or interview is black ? Has ACORN only went after the black voters in this registration drive ? I have seen this on all of the networks, it's all the same.

Has anybody seen anything different ? Is this just bad timing on my part, not seeing any other race involved or are you seeing the same ? My wife pointed this out to me tonight when they were interview this young black man claiming that he didn't want to register more than once but gave in to their demands of , I think 22 times ?

We know that ACORN is targeting the low income, the poor voters in this election. My question here is why ? We all know that a hight percentage of these people are of the minority race. Just as Obama did in his voter registration campaign of years ago,he targeted the low income and that consisted of mainly the black vote.

It would appear to me that Obama and ACORN is making this a race issue by only targeting the black community that is basically democratic.

Smart move by Obama to win the election, but what does this say about him as a leader and the issues that many Americans fear about him. He is playing right into their opinions and visions. To get the American people behind Obama, he needs to play to all Americans, not just the ones who will help him win.

Remember this election by him is about change. People from all around were saying that Obama only cares about the people,not himself personally. It would appear to me that Obama is only looking out for himself in this election, selling out to whatever it takes to get elected.


This whole Obama campaign is deception. He has the young voters fooled about who he is, what he stands for. In reality he can't deliver his campaign plan, his issues that will fix America.With the changing economy, he can't implement the all the plans because of cost. Cutting spending is an issue, who was the last democrat POTUS that was able to cut taxes. Clinton promised to do it and raised them once in office.

But back to the ACORN registration question, Has anybody else seen this or is it just bad timing on my part ?

Because they are targeting poor, inner-city citizens who aren't registered to vote, and that population is largely black?

It's basically a poor people's chamber or trade association. They are a membership organization like a chamber. They focus on the public policy needs of their membership (poor people). The way to impact the system is to register to vote and vote.

My question is why is being black and being registered to vote such a problem for you? Are you really asking why someone is registering black people to vote? Like that's objectionable?

ACORN has been organizing poor, inner city people since 1970. It's not about Obama, it's about having been born out of the civil rights movement, when black people were finally allowed to vote. It was an effort to help them become a rightful part of the system. Sadly, getting all citizens to vote is difficult, but even more sadly it's still very difficult to get poor, inner city people to vote. It takes this sort of organizing.

Are you kidding? Only one of these two candidates has been very consistant on policy and message from the beginning. And his name isn't John McCain. That guy gave up every long standing policy position he could in order to get elected, then went back on them as much as needed to try to win the general. McCain, the fiscal conservative, was the one who tried to out-socialism, the Democrats by saying he wanted to buy all adjustable rate mortgages when no one else was suggesting it was needed. Obama has had the luxury of not needed to redefine himself every week in order to try to gain his lead.

We'll see how it goes from here, but it's going to be hard for anyone to do what they are promising given this economic collapse. But he has the luxury of saying he's going to raise taxes. Winning with that message makes thing easier once you are elected.

Again, they are an organization who grew out of the civil rights era where blacks were finally allowed to vote, so they focus on those inner city communities where lots of black people still live. It's a product of our nations disgusting history.

I may, I'm more concerned with the other hack running for POTUS that you took your # after.

He is going to be faced with more ties to Rev. Wright and his radical movements, the ones Obama denies any association with, of which he lied because he gave them money .
