Elections Did this debate change the dynamic of the race?

The two being so close to each other made for a better debate IMO. It wasn't just chunks of rehearsed campaign stuff as much as the other two debates were.

Obama seemed sharp as always. McCain attacked him pretty skillfully but didn't draw any blood.

Just my thoughts.

So do you think this debate changed the dynamic of the Presidential race?

I was surprised McCain kept linking Sarah Palin to autism so strongly. Her child has downs syndrome.

My opinion is unless Racism is a major, major player this debate ended the campaign effectively for McCain.

No. McCain needed to pull a Regan-like when Regan pulled off the "There you go again" comment to Jimmy Carter, along with the "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?"

Didn't do neither one. That one comment about running against Bush, should have done it 4 years ago, was good, but unfortunately, didn't have much effect, if at all.

If this were a boxing match, it looked to me like McCain kept landing body blow after body blow while Obama was covering up and defensive. Unfortunately for McCain, he didn't even knock Obama down, much less knock him out. Good showing by McCain, mediocre showing by Obama but that was probably enough for him barring additional developments.

That was an odd thing to do. Even if her kid had autism, it was weird for him to focus so much attention on that one affliction. Is there a huge autism vote up for grabs or something?

It's not going to have the intended effect when it's thrown back in your face by your opponent.

Paraphrasing - I'm sorry I've confused you with Bush, it's just that you share his economic policies - or something to that effect.

I said it in the discussion thread, but this felt a lot like a denouement. It's all but settled, McCain gets to throw out whatever he's got, Obama gets to once again present a presidential face to America, and then that's that. Even with the election being three weeks away, it feels... finished, kind of.

So no, no change. In fact, I would say the amount of change was:

Zero.

I liken it to a basketball game. Last night was the beginning of the 4th quarter of a game that Obama had a big lead in. McCain needed to make a serious run (like a 20-2 spurt) in the first 8 minutes of a 12 minute quarter to make the last 4 minutes interesting. He didn't do it. I think he had a strong night, but Obama stayed with him enough to keep the blowout in tact. In basketball scoring McCain's first 8 minutes of the 4th quarter were something like 16-12. That's not going to help close the gap on a 25 point deficit.

my thoughts too. I was wondering if he was trying to set up for some arcane "gotcha" moment--just more lurching I s'pose

Mediocre? The neo-cons would be doing cartwheels all day if McCain had won the debate in almost all polls 51% - 32%. But your candidate got knocked out again by Obama. Your partisanship is showing.
