Free Jazz
Is anybody else here into free jazz?

I've really gotten into it hardcore, specifically the jazz pioneers from the 1960s but I'd love to get into more modern free jazz artists.

The only modern free jazz ensemble I've gotten into is Joe Maneri, who I just think is fantastic. Maneri's music, in particular In Full Cry, which is the album of his that I own, is structured as if a mainstream jazz tune was intended, but the band just completely misses all the notes and it creates a whole new dynamic altogether. Just great stuff.

Wondering what you're into. I'm comfortable discussing the other free jazz I own if anybody's interested.

i really like ornette coleman, either of his Live at the Golden Circle releases are amazing.

you also can't go wrong with any post 1964 Coltrane, Albert Ayler is also good.

Other than Coltrane, I'm not a big fan. I'm more into traditional bebop and cool jazz, although modern big band is what I really go for.
