Xbox 360 ... which version?
anyone know how to tell which Xbox version you have?

v1.4 ... v1.5 ... v1.6


anyone put a modchip in their Xbox?
If so how easy and how effective?
which modchip is best?

Easiest way to mod the 360 is a firmware upgrade.

Right now you can mod the following drives:

Hitachi
Samsung
Ben-Q

If you have the Magnavox drive you are simply SOL

you can tell what kind of drive you have just by looking, and comparing, your drive tray to this image.



The Hitachi drives are a pain in the ass to mod... the Samsungs are easy as pie as long as you have a sata port on your computer.

what's the pros of a modded xbox? I know you can burn games to your hard drive when your xbox is modded...but is that it? I can stream video from torrents through tversity...so is the only benefit being able to burn rented games or torrents on to your hard drive?

To not have to load disks all the time would be great IMO. I don't want to spend the money on a bigger HDD though.

There is actually more to it.

A regular DVD drive cannot and will not read the 360 games. A specific drive needs to be purchased for things to work properly. you can get them on ebay for about $50 (the cost of a single game).

On top of that, you need a DVD burner in your computer that can burn Dual Layer disks. Most if not all the newer drives are capable of burning those disks.

Once you have the required PC components, there is just one other thing you will need.

There are pieces of software available such as Schtrom360Xtract V3.4 that will do all the work for you. Aside from Schtrom, you will need burning software.

For the purposes listed above, Clone CD is by FAR the best program available.

ya, I'm still doing just fine with my 20GB. Unless you want to save all your games onto it I don't see the point in having a 120GB
