Trucking shipment data is often a gauge of overall economic health, because truckers haul more than two-thirds of all U.S. manufactured and retail goods.

The American Trucking Association's advance seasonally adjusted truck tonnage index fell 2.2 percent in April, after plunging 4.5 percent in March.

Compared with April 2008, tonnage shrank 13.2 percent, marking the worst year-over-year decrease of the current cycle and the largest drop in thirteen years.

It's not going to be a steady downward or upward trend back. Different areas will rebound and others won't. Some will lag. There were even good spurts in the our second great depression. And of course, some people will do well despite it all. Some people always have money during these things. I mean really it was 1 out of 4 that were unemployed in the 1930's Depression. That means 3 of of 4 were employed.

Wait, now it's back and forth? So we have 1) Depression for 10 years, 2)The shopping malls are full and we are almost recovered, 3) It's a double dip, and 4) It will start and stop a bunch.

Are you sure this is the one you want to stick with?

One-and-done POTUS of Carterian proportions will position this country for just the kind of strong rebound we need.

You mean, like maybe we better not give a shit if NK goes nuclear because China may dump our bonds? Oh yeah, it helps the government repay those loans to China, a lot.

Just wait until the Bond market dumps.

Game over.

Honest to God dude, I doubt we recognize this country in 3 1/2 years.

There will be crickets here, or it will be Bush's fault.

It seems like it now but don't despair. This country is built on a lot stronger stuff than that. We've been here before and we'll come out the other side just like we always have.
When the conditions are more favorable the players will come out again.

Awesome news. We've been hovering at around 14,000 give or take 6,000 point. Sideways mostly...

Unemployment is skyrocketing, but consumer confidence is up. No, wait...WAY up. At least gas prices aren't going back up.

You've nearly tripled your original investment in less than 5 months? Sure thing. I'm sure you've got a 10" dong and a wife who looks like Megan Fox, too.

Why do I get the feeling that your "investments" involve turning a quarter on it's side, rubbing vigorously, and hoping to find 3 matching numbers?

I don't doubt him, in this market if you bought at the bottom in March, all you had to do was throw a dart at the stock board and you'd be up pretty far.
