Anyone know an honest mechanic?

I live in the Raytown/Indep Area. Bought a Z3 Roadster (97), having some overheating issues, would like to take it locally around to a mechanic or shop that could deal with this type of car.

Dont want to pay stealership prices at this time, anyone recommend someone local?..

Thanks.. I appreciate the help

I've done some comparison shopping, and my dealer's prices actually aren't that bad.

They are the most honest mechanics I've come across - they usually have a suggestion for cheaper alternatives and have fixed minor stuff for free.

Although, if I suggest that I will use anything other than true Honda parts, they look at me like I just ate a giant turd in a hot dog bun.

I'd trust Sauto even if he doesn't have a lab scope.

If that's a BMW (I think it is) not just any neighborhood grease monkey should work on one of those. One of my pals has a Beemer, and he swears by BMW Autobahn Motorworks (think that is the name of the place) down on Southwest Boulevard by Manny's Restuarant.

This is good advice. You likely won't find a cheap shade tree mechanic that will work on that.

What you'll find more often than a dishonest mechanic is one who just doesn't know how to fix a paticular problem. I worked in the business for several years and can think of only one mechanic that worked for me that I would consider dishonest. He didn't last long once I was in a position to make the hire/fire decisions.

On something like what you've got I'd definately take it to the dealer. Automobile repairs are like most things. You get what you pay for.

LP's at 95th and James A Reed has always been good for our family, but I wouldn't take a beemer there. I don't think they have all of the newest diagnostic equipment.

In Olathe, Bret's Autoworks at Santa Fe near I-35 is trustworthy.

There are plenty of honest shops out there, I know, I own one. However its in Colorado.
You do need to find a GOOD shop, not just any old shop. You cant go out and buy a BMW and then complain about the price it takes to maintain it. A lot of the equipment needed to work on them is very expensive and therefor shops charge more to work on them. The dealer is going to be the most expensive but if a cheaper shop keeps selling you parts you dont need, they arent any cheaper. Good luck and congrats on your new car!
