He Doesn't seem to mind lying

Start here...

(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama, in an online conference call with BlogTalkRadio on Wednesday, urged liberal religious groups to “spread the facts and speak the truth” about health care reform. Obama said it's "not true" that health care reform will allow government funding of abortion.
But pro-life leaders responded to the conference call by noting that health care reform plans in both chambers of Congress would allow federal funds to pay for abortions.

“I know there’s been a lot of misinformation in this debate. And there are some folks out here who are, frankly, bearing false witness,” Obama said on BlogTalkRadio.

“You’ve heard this is all going to mean government funding of abortion,” Obama said. “Not true.”

The conference call was sponsored by Faithful America, a coalition of liberal religious groups, that wa launched in 2004 to collect contributions to run ads on Arabic-language satellite television “expressing regret to Muslims for abuses committed by Americans at Abu Ghraib prison.”

But But....

But, Orrin Hatch's Amendment, that would have prohibited ObamaCare from funding abortions, was defeated along party lines:

WASHINGTON – A Senate committee today narrowly defeated Sen. Orrin Hatch’s amendment to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee’s health care reform bill to prohibit federal dollars from being used to fund abortions except in cases of rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother.
Hatch (R-Utah) was dismayed by the HELP Committee’s 12-11 vote against his amendment to the proposed Affordable Health Choices Act.

“The right to life is a fundamental value cherished by most Americans, regardless of their political affiliation,” said Hatch, a member of the HELP Committee. “Yet unless abortion is specifically excluded from this bill, the secretary of Health and Human Services could mandate coverage of abortion, arguing it is an ‘essential health care benefit’ and is ‘necessary for meeting minimum qualifying coverage.’ ”

Last week, the HELP Committee adopted language to require “essential community providers,” which includes abortion providers, to be included in health insurance networks. While Hatch was assured that amendment, which defines Planned Parenthood clinics as “essential community providers,” would not require insurance plans to cover abortion, he wanted language in the bill to ensure that did not happen.

“That is why today’s vote is so puzzling,” Hatch said. “If last week's amendment does not sanction taxpayer-funded abortions, as its proponents have said, then why strike down an amendment to ensure that it doesn’t? That is hardly reassuring to Americans who believe in the sanctity of human life.”

Even the AP admits that ObamaCare funds abortions (after first denying it).

LifeNews: While the first AP piece claimed the health care bill "could create a government-run insurance program, or insurance 'exchanges,' that would not involve Medicaid" that could involve abortion funding, the new piece says that is now the case.
AP admitted that the Capps amendment a House committee adopted last week "would allow the public plan to cover abortion" with "dollars from beneficiary premiums." It added, "Likewise, private plans in the new insurance exchange could opt to cover abortion."

Johnson told LifeNews.com today that the AP piece "confirms what we've been saying: Under both Obama-backed bills, House and Senate, the federal government would run a huge system of subsidizing elective abortion."

The new AP article includes comments from Johnson about the Capps amendment, which some abortion advocates are falsely touting as a compromise that will prevent abortion funding.

"It's a sham," he said. "It's a bookkeeping scheme. The plan pays for abortion, and the government subsidizes the plan."

As I said in the other thread there is nothing in either bill that says anything about funding abortion. The fact that it doesn't specifically say anything has pro-lifers up in arms because they think the potential is there.

And for the record I would be for the Hatch amendment.
