my 16 yr old daughter has been invited to participate in this next summer-travel & study in Italy, Sicily & Greece. anybody got any experience with this Exchange Organization? Info mtg coming up soon, but figured someone here might share some insight-thanks

My brother went to Russia right after the collapse of the USSR. It was in like 1990 or 91, so I don't have much insight, but I think he really enjoyed it.

don't know anything about them now but my older sister went on a 8 week/10 country (I think it was) European tour in the late '60's.

the organization has been around a while.

My wife was a group chaperon for trips to Europe and Australia, 7-8 years ago. Overall, it seems to be a good program. A lot depends on the leaders, and how consistent/diligent they are with supervision and enforcement of the rules. One of my wife's complaints after her third trip....was that the program seemed more willing to turn a blind-eye to alcohol/drug/inappropriate behaviors (shall we say) than they had been in prior trips. It will give us pause to send our kids when they are in high school. Again, that probably depended on the quality and character of the chaperons as much as anything else, though. Take it FWIW.

Sex is alot less taboo in those country's so is drinking so be careful. I have seen several video's of orgy's going down and I think they were speaking italian (from what i heard over the slurping sounds)

I know a guy who is looking for a group of 16 year old girls to chaperone on a camping trip in the Ozarks.

Not quite sure where he plans on going but he mentioned he prefer they be flexible, know how men are "out together" and smoked cigarettes.

Said they wouldn't be gone long since his probabtion officer doesn't know anything about this.

He said 17 year olds would also work ok.

I'm still puzzeled by the whole thing though.

The first thing that she needs to realize, is that what freedoms and rights she enjoys here, are not guaranteed there. She should also read up on those countries customs, more's, etc. I'll assume that she knows her history of those countries. If not, she ought to brush up a bit on the general history of the area.

Once over there, she should take in all the sights, sounds, and smells. Basically, go "native", up to a point, enjoy the experience, go with the flow, and leave any American superiority (if she has any) attitude at home.
