Redskins shopping Anthony Montgomery

Redskins defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery was displaced in the starting lineup by Albert Haynesworth this offseason, and now might be sent right off the roster.

A league source tells PFT's Mike Florio that Montgomery is being shopped in advance of next week's trading deadline.

A starter for 21 games between 2007-2008, Montgomery has not been active this season.

The decision to shop Montgomery comes after the team found out that Philip Daniels will play through a torn biceps, and the team re-signed Renaldo Wynn Monday.

Any team that wants montgomery he is a solid run stuffing DT so throwing a 7th out for him would not be a bad deal at all.

Do the Redskins seriously think someone is going to cough up a draft pick for a guy they all know the Deadskins are going to release???

Hopefully the Lions will jump all over this. Injuries at the DT position have put them in a bad spot...when your starters are backups, then the backups are HORRIBLE...

A solid run stuffing DT, replaced by a fat guy, 50 times the salary, adept at lying on the ground exhausted. ROTFL, what an inept bunch of dopes.

After all he is big: 6'6" 330 lbs.

Big Monty is a great player when healthy, which he hasn't been all year reportedly due to knee tendonitis.

Big Monty holds the point even against double teams, can collapse the pocket. The upgrade from him to Albert, assuming both healthy, isn't much. Monty was pizzed off when Danny Boy signed Albert.

Monty could play NT or DE in a 3-4 and totally fulfill the mission of the position. For the Chiefs, he'd be an NT, and a huge upgrade over what is on the roster assuming his knee is OK (I am not a doc).

Monty was virtually unblockable at Minnesota. He got hit during the Draft with the "underachiever" label, which really was not the case. Big Monty can be slow "out of the gates" in a game, but he has great stamina, and can dominate in Q4 after playing 50 snaps in the first 3.

If the knee checks out, I'd trade DJ for him.
