Oh ... just stick it up your Mock
2010 NFL Mock Draft
by Ben Standig, UpdatedMonday, January 4, 2010 Ben tied for the sixth most accurate 2009 NFL Mock Draft according to The Huddle Report, finishing ahead of Mel Kiper and Jay Glazer. Round 1 1. STL: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska Normally an offensively starved squad would look for a franchise QB, but the beastly Suh is simply that good. Of course, if a QB prospect blows the Rams brass away, who knows. 2. DET: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State Regardless of other needs, the Lions must, must, MUST protect last year's major investment Matthew Stafford better than they are now. Okung is the best on the board. 3. TB: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma* The now officially rebuilding Bucs get the inside presence they have lacked since Warren Sapp danced out of town in McCoy. Secondary and receiver help comes next. 4. WAS: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma* Expected coaching changes and the unclear contract status of Jason Campbell make this pick tricky. O-line is top need, but having Bradford sit behind Campbell for a year is an option. 5. KC: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee* This is a case of need vs. talent. The Chiefs need a serious upgrade along the offensive line and Trent Williams is available. Yet if Suh is the top player in the draft, Berry is 1A. 6. SEA: Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma* Replace perennial Pro Bowler Walter Jones, address leaky secondary and finding the QB of the future are the needs. Williams made the switch to LT for the Sooners, so he is ready to go. 7. CLE: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech* Ideally the Browns grab an offensive player at nearly any position, but Quinn likely gets another year at QB and no strong skill players here. Morgan is a defensive playmaker. 8. OAK: Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida* DUI charges prior to the SEC Title game likely drop Dunlap's draft stock, but his pass rushing skills cannot be denied and the Raiders are not scared easily. QB though, maybe. 9. BUF: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame* Fixing their run defense and O-line are musts, but the Bills also need a QB. They recently spoke with Clausen's former tutor Charlie Weis and it can't be about being head coach. 10. DEN: Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama* With the top two QB prospects off the board, the Broncos focus on their run defense that faltered over the second half. Adding a run-stuffing ILB like McClain will do wonders. 11. JAX: Sergio Kindle, DE-LB, Texas To Tebow or not Tebow will likely be discussed ad nauseum for the Jags, but they get him later. A pass rusher will help the woeful secondary and Kindle is rising on draft boards.. 12. MIA: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State* Taking a NT makes sense, but the Dolphins need to improve on their collection of third receiver types. Suspension aside, Bryant could be the #1 WR that Ted Ginn will never be. 13. SF: Joe Haden, CB, Florida* An argument can be made for the Niners to go RT here, but Haden is one of the keys to the Gators' suffocating defense and the clear top corner in the draft. 14. SEA: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson Seahawks could address DB or QB needs here, but they also need to improve on the Jones/Forsett backfield and Spiller is the most dynamic runner in the draft 15. NYG: Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida Injuries have done a number on the defense and the offensive line is starting to show some age. The hard-hitting Spikes takes care of one issue as the future man in the middle. 16. TEN: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida* If the Titans hadn't made that second half run they would be in position to grab Morgan or Dunlap, but Pierre-Paul has the pass rushing skills they are looking for. 17. SF: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers,* The Niners struggled at RT much of the season, but are in a good spot to fix that. Davis is arguably the most athletic OT in the draft and could be a draft riser once workout begins. 18. PIT: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland* Sure, Big Ben holds the ball too long at times, but the o-line is to blame for his hits as well. The 6'6 Campbell is flying up draft boards. Fixing the hole at safety is another possibility here. 19. ATL: Everson Griffen, DE, USC* Adding another receiving weapon on the outside would be a huge move toward Matt Ryan's growth, but the Falcons' defense has cracks everywhere -- including at pass rusher. 20. HOU: Earl Thomas, S, Texas* Power back Jonathan Dwyer would be a nice option to pair with Steve Slaton, but instead the Texans stay close to home and take a coverage safety for their ordinary secondary. 21. NYJ: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee NT Kris Jenkins went out with an ACL injury and the Jets do not have great depth behind the soon to be 31-year old. Williams was a major force in the SEC wars for the Vols. 22. BAL: Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois Joe Flacco is the real deal, but the clock is running out on top WR Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton remains nothing more than a tease. Now the Ravens get their own Big Benn. 23. ARI: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma Cards still looking for OLB/pass rush help in their new 3-4 defense and adding an offensive tackle is likely. for now they solve their long standing hole at TE with Gresham. 24. CIN: Brian Price, DT, UCLA* The Bengals' run defense was stout much of the season, but injuries late in the year exposed their lack of depth. Price stops the run and notched seven sacks for the Bruins. 25. NE: Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss Adding a speed back -- like Cal's Jahvid Best -- is an option since the Pats likely won't count on Laurence Maroney, but they have bigger fish to fry here, specifically their pass rush. 26. GB: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa Aaron Rodgers was lucky to make it through the season in one piece, so adding a young tackle, maybe two, is a must. Getting a talent like Bulaga this late would be a steal 27. PHI: Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri It has felt like the Eagles have been playing catch up all year at linebacker due to early and ongoing injuries. Adding one Witherspoon (Will) helped, so two will be twice as nice. 28. DAL: Taylor Mays, S, USC Safety remains a need for the Cowboys and Mays was projected in the top-10 before slipping following his return to the Trojans. Tabbing a LT to replace Flozell Adams is next. 29. MIN: Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan* For all the talk of the Vikings' defensive prowess, the secondary has shown major holes over the final few games. Adding another RB to replace Chester Taylor comes next. 30. SD: Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech* All signs point to the LT2 show being closed down sooner than later and Darren Sproles is better suited for a situational role, so the Bolts take a full-time back in the first. 31. NO: Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama The turnaround for the Saints' defense early on has eroded, especially against the run. At a minimum, depth is needed and Mount Cody is a big time disrupter in the middle. 32. IND: Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina* DT Fili Moala was drafted this year to help stop the run and take the pressure off of Dwight Freeney, but the interior line upgrade continues with the power rushing Austin. |

Of course I would love getting Berry. Good to see SPOON going in the 1st round in almost every mock I've seen, it seems hes always going to the Eagles along w/ J-Mac & T-Ruck.

It would, but I can't see it happing.
Other than hiring ****her, Martin Mayhew and Jim Swartz seem to undertstand where they need to take that team, and while they need backside protection, I think they wait until the second round, when there;s comparable talent and better value.

as for mays in the 2nd it really depends who else is there. I would hope there would be a linebacker there that we would need more. |
