I'm not sure if this is what you're meaning, but if you're trying to play Mass Effect 2 and your saved games from Mass Effect 1 aren't showing up to import in, put in ME and go to your last save, beat the game and it'll take a snapshot of your endgame.
I had to do this for all my saves since I had a new 360. If this isn't the deal, ignore everything above.

I found it. I guess when you just do a complete HDD transfer to a new Xbox unit the ME saves won't move over. You have to manually move them over as individual files.
