Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot at public event

Giffords shot at meet n greet in front of a tucson safeway. Early reports 12 wounded. 4 confirmed dead, early reports say giffords was shot in the head. 3 of her staff are also wounded. No report from the hospital on giffords.

I agree with you about he knew what he was doing. As far as the early blame game there is still a lot we don't know about, what his motivations were and what role the other suspect played in it.

But I do agree with what the Sheriff said tonight and I think there needs to be some toning down of the rhetoric:

The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And, unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry.

"It's not unusual for all public officials to get threats constantly, myself included. And that's the sad thing of what's going on in America. Pretty soon, we're not going to be able to find reasonable, decent people who are willing to subject themselves to serve in public office."

Let me just say one thing, because people tend to poo-poo this business about all the vitriol that we hear inflaming the American public by people who make a living off of doing that. That may be free speech. But it's not without consequences.

I was reading another site and there seemed to be really conflicting info on Ron Barber... gald to hear he is ok...so sorry for all your other friends...prayers to everyone who has had their life torn inside out by this senseless act...

Was it a nine year old that was killed or a none month old? Either way it's utterly tragic a child died. I hear Gifford is pulling through but it is a serious wound. She won't be the same after wards. My best wishes to the rest.

Yeah CJ (her press secretary) was first reported to have been shot. Then he himself came out and reported that Ron was recovering but Gabe had died.

9 year old girl.

She was a 9/11 baby, born on 9/11 and featured in a book about such babies.

She was taken to the event by a neighbor. My wife pointed that out. I can't imagine the eternal guilt that the neighbor will have forever for taking her. Sad, sad day.

But don't be surprised if the MSMM(Mainstream Marxist Media) try to pin this on the tea party and label this person a teapartier. They (Radical Left Stalinists,Maoists etc...) have been looking for something they can pin on the tea party for months now and don't put it past these 'little cowardly anarchists' that they could have been behind this in order to create chaos to divert and Alinskyize the Tea party.

From what i've read she was a former republican, pro 2nd amendment and was in favor of closing the border. She seems to be a breath of fresh air and someone that doesn't see things as left/right but from a constitutional perspective. Jaz feel free to correct me if i'm wrong on this.

She's incredibly thoughtful. Sincere. She took tough stands on issues she cared deeply about. You wouldn't agree with her on everything, but she is an honest broker of compromise. She is a STRONG advocate for rebuilding our educational systems around science and math education. She is a huge supporter of NASA and space exploration, even before meeting Mark.

She isn't a strict constructionist like many on the right.

But when given a fair viewing by conservatives, outside the framing that comes from the horrible rhetoric of the last 18 years, she's a Dem that Republicans really like.
