More than anything else, I was disappointed with the speech. This isn't fake disappointment where some republican commentator would say "I was disappointed to see Obama do such and such" where you are thinking "yeah right, disappointed my ass, you political hack, tell us how you really feel".

I was really, truely disappointed. Some people will never give Obama a chance and always see a political enemy even if he were greeting the pope, but I really was hoping for a non-partisan uplifting address. I would have given him a pass on the crowd, bad decision on the venue but whatever, I just wanted a good speech and I did not get that. I wish Clinton gave that speech instead.

Oh well, Obama is not a bad person, he's just a politician. A smart politician to be sure, probably smarter than GW Bush, but just a politician who is unable to be presidential.

Maybe this is how Memorial Services are done in Reverend Wrights Church. We may be to harsh expecting Obama to know what memorial services are outside of black liberation theology. All Churches are different in how they do things.

No I didn't. I never said any such thing. I don't think you will find any place until just moments ago that I typed the name. You are emotional and distraught.

You have had a tough few days. It shows. Lashing out and being what seems irrational even for you. You may want to get some rest.

No I didnt. look close. I dont think I wrote a single thing that was in that long link. You boys are reaching a long way here. You both need some time away.

IF either of you took the time to read the link, it was already known who the shooter was. and the issue of the KOS poster was a question of who was/is this blueboy and how similar his posts were to the events. I dont know anyone here ever said they were the same and as I understand it this blue boy is another kook who tried to off himself some time back.

Good try to divert from the thread.

You do understand "the guy" was in reference to the assassin. I think you are smart enough to make that connection. Orange, not so much. But you, I give you the benefit of the doubt.

That links to the fairly gushing AP article I referenced earlier.

He (Drudge) also links to this:
Offering no easy explanations but yearning to put hatred and division aside, President Obama offered a stirring memorial late Wednesday for those killed and wounded at a weekend get-together with U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

And he offered, off the cuff, electrifying news for a nation hoping for Giffords to pull through. "Gabby opened her eyes for the first time'' today, Obama told the crowd, while his wife, Michelle, gripped the hand of Giffords' husband, NASA astronaut Mark Kelly.

Before a riveted audience at the University of Arizona, Obama, with a bipartisan cast of polticial officials, pleaded for an end to the highly charged rhetoric of recent months.

"At a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized – at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do – it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds,'' Obama said in prepared remarks.

more: http://nationaljournal.com/whitehous...sacre-20110112

And then there's this:
TUCSON - President Obama comforted a community suffused with grief and summoned the nation to recommit to a more civil public discourse as he delivered a eulogy Wednesday evening urging Americans to talk with each other "in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds."

Evoking memories of the six killed here Saturday, Obama seized upon the mass shooting at a congresswoman's supermarket meet-and-greet to tackle directly the subject of the nation's harsh political dialogue. He sharply decried the "politics and point-scoring and pettiness that drifts away with the next news cycle."

"Rather than pointing fingers or assigning blame, let us use this occasion to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy, and remind ourselves of all the ways our hopes and dreams are bound together," Obama told 14,000 people at the University of Arizona's McKale Memorial Center.

Obama did not ascribe a political motive to the alleged shooter, or suggest that either party was to blame. Rather, in a 33-minute speech, he sought to move the nation past the tragedy.

...

But the crowd did not lose sight of the purpose. As Giffords's family entered with three hospital surgeons wearing white lab coats over their scrubs, the crowd stood in applause. Other heroes of the shooting, including Daniel Hernandez, the intern who tended to Giffords at the crime scene, were engulfed in cheers as they were shown on the arena's video screen.

Obama looked gravely serious throughout, pursing his lips even when the crowd screamed in delight. He appeared deeply moved throughout the service - unusual for a president often criticized for seeming too rote or detached. When he referred to Christina Taylor Green, he appeared close to tears; Michelle Obama was crying throughout.

I think you anti-Obamanauts are going to have a cold and lonely Thursday.

Oh, and here's another guy who thinks the killing was political:

Addressing a bipartisan prayer service in tribute to the victims of Saturday's shooting rampage in Tucson, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) vowed that the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and others at a constituent event would not deter lawmakers from carrying out their civic duties.

"No assailant's bullet -- no twisted act of violence or cruelty -- can silence the sacred dialogue of democracy," Boehner said, according to his prepared remarks.

At the prayer service, which was attended by scores of lawmakers and held in an auditorium of the Capitol Visitors Center, Boehner also commended his fellow House members for responding with civility in the wake of tragedy.

"As our nation struggles to comprehend this act of savagery -- this fearful assault on all of our sacred responsibilities -- it speaks well of our institution that its members have reacted not with a torrent of accusations hurled at each other, but courageously, with a collective embrace -- the embrace of brothers, sisters, and countrymen. It is in that spirit that we assemble here today," he said.

I understand that in your mind, you saw a good speech and are bewildered by the negative reaction. Who knows, maybe you are right and I am wrong. I'm not gonna lie to you, I was definitely disappointed with Obama, but if I am forced to think of some kind of a compliment, I will say this for the guy: I think he really tried to give the best speech he could and I think in his mind he probably, honestly, tried as hard as he could to be presidential. He just failed in my eyes.

Maybe my standards are too high or maybe I am unfairly biased against left-wingers, but I will say it was the least political speech he has given.

I will also say that maybe you care too much about what some random political nerds think on the D.C. section of the chiefs planet dot com message board. Don't get too wrapped up into swaying us to your vision, and understand that we are fundamentally right-wing. Say your piece, correct any misunderstandings, and just move on. I've found that I have been a bit happier after I spent less time with the hyper-negative eternal-rage world of both this message board and talk radio.

Heated over what?! Are you f@#%ing kidding me? What did I say exactly in this very thread that merited your initial personal attack?

I get heated over many opinions here but I don't insult the person. I rarely ever call the opinion itself dumb, stupid or worse. Never the person. If you see me engaging in insults it's ALWAYS in reaction to the other guy's multiple attempts at insulting me either historically or in the very thread that it happens.
