Anti-govt speech is vital to maintaining liberty. We must be able to criticize our govt. Only dictatorships and totalitarians disallow that.
Furthermore, a govt official's life is not worth more than any non-govt officials life. No, this is not making less of Gifford's life...it's saying human life is human life. We are equal in this dept.

Anti-govt speech is protected, but it's not the same as criticism of the govt. Criticism of the government can be important to maintaining liberty, but burning a flag is not (though still allowed).

If Obot gets another four years on top of the first four you just might find out how true that statement is.

In the standard definition I'd agree, but as elected officials their life might have more importance and cost to the regular citizen, regardless of which belief they are of, liberals and conservatives bleed the same red blood.

I don't think the country needs to increase the secret service to be all encompassing of civil servants, but the impact on the country when one, or many, may be killed because of what they do could be devastating to the country.

We might like each other immensely, but we'd still be enemies. One of my oldest friends and business partners is my political archenemy. Now, if this guy showed up at my house with a dead body and told me I had to bury it for him, my only question would be, "How deep?" even though he's a leftist socialist who deludes himself into thinking he's a democrat and few things would be more personally satisfying for me than seeing him lose his right to vote due to a felony conviction.

banyon's right. I could save you many hundreds of miles since I haven't seen Cleveland since the '80s and haven't lived there since the '70s.

(banyon's another enemy, but I know he — like my friend forever above — is only dangerously insane politically. Otherwise I'd be very happy living next door to the guy and sharing tools and grilled meats as long as the Congressional district border fell between our houses. I'd say the same about orange, Direckshun, Jenson and any number of others here.)

The best part about the "memorial" was watching three Godless scumbags, Nappy, Holder and B.O., reading from the Bible.

Unless legitimacy is completely disregarded, the right's view cannot be that Palin's map was a metaphor, but Obama actually wanted guns brought.
Of course. And I don't think that's the view of most on the right. OTOH, based on post shooting comments, the view of many on the left seems to completely disregard legitimacy in the very way you describe (except in reverse).

Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing, and the people — we the people — are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Wouldn't the president reading from the bible be considered sponsoring religion? Or was it the koran he was reading from?
