Cassel did, does, and will always suck

I had backed off on my Cassel hate in the second half of the season because he actually started to play with a modicum of competence. But I never stopped being wary of him, because he was playing well against shitty, shitty ****ing teams.

But today is proof positive that Cassel is NOT the answer. He will NOT be a franchise quarterback. He simply doesn't have the ability or the intelligence that is required. He never really progressed this season; he just managed to not shit himself against the NFC West.

Can we all just agree that he's not the answer? Please?

He has tremendous physical attributes, and as to his intangibles, I recommend you read TJ Moe's four tweets about Gabbert.

Ok. Mallett is an intriguing prospect.

But what, specifically, do you like more about him than you do Gabbert? It can't be the obvious physical gifts, since both are extremely comparable in this regard.

I've said this before, but Gabbert projects as a more athletic Roethlisberger.

He's not as physically strong, which means he'll go down easier, but he is more nimble of foot.

Arm strength is similar. Schemes coming from college are similar.

Gabbert is a much higher character individual.

As a prospect, he is superior. Doesn't mean he'll be his equal as a QB.

I'd like to go for a receiver in the first but if we could trade Cassel for a 1st rounder and then trade up to grab Gabbert I would do it in a heartbeat. Then I'd just wait til the 3rd to draft Austin Pettis. If this all happened we would either have to hope someone like Stanzi is around in the 4th or sign someone like Alex Smith for early season QBing, we would have 0 QB's on the roster going into the draft.

Flacco's first 5 playoff games, over 2 seasons (3-2 record):

1 TD
6 INTs

59.1
89.4
18.2
10.0
48.4

Manning's first 3 playoff years (0-3 record):

1 TD
2 INTs

62.3
82.0
31.2

Flacco was able to get some wins because his team was able to win despite him. Neither Manning nor Cassel were that fortunate.

We have legitimate targets in the passing game between Bowe, Moeki, and McCluster. In the very game you discuss the leading receiver for Balt was their ****ing TE because their QB was able to read the routes and also had less time to throw the ball.

To not acknowledge that Cassel shit the bed is just plain ignorant and your incessant "the WR's were blanketed" tells me you don't understand the relationship between the rushing and passing game functioning together. Other QB's find a way to get the ball to a hot route and don't just back peddle until the are sacked. Cassel clearly stopped even looking downfield if the pocket began to collapse.

Flacco is also a 3rd year QB and found ways to get the ball to his receivers with less time. Heap was the primary target and not those superstars you used to support your other argument. Flacco kept his eyes downfield and looked to make plays. We don't have that in Cassel. He double pumped on the screens and almost got our rb's killed.

Absolutely.

The first point, though, is something that can be improved upon, with an NFL training regimen (and pharmacy).

I wouldn't touch Mallet with a 10 foot pole.

Gabbert would be OK, but just like my chances of screwing Jennifer Anniston, not happening.

How old was Flacco at this point and how much NFL experience did he have? Or is this the "Cassel was essentially a rookie" argument?

Any GM who would give a #1 for Bass Mattle should be taken to a field like Joe Pesci in "Casino", beaten with a bat, dropped in a hole, and buried while still breathing.

We need a QB with a quick release and can scramble. One that gets in the face of the receivers when they drop the ball. Cassel is better then alot of QB's in the league( cough cough) and has shown glimpses of promise.. I'm so friggin pissed about the loss and it gets pinned on the play calling and offense not executing.
