But that's not a fair comparison. He's more of a Jon Kitna. Capable of starting in the NFL? I suppose. Capable of excelling at it? Not in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong. I hope we draft a 1st rnd QB to spend a year under Cassel, only to end up with a Brees/Rivers dilemma.

Cassel can win in the playoffs, but it seems as though there is enough evidence to suggest that we'll need to try to evoke the '00 Ravens model. In other words, he's not the type of QB who can put a team on his back, a "franchise QB."
What we're trying to build is harder to do. |

The term, "red herring" is derived from the use of red herrings to train the hounds used to hunt foxes. Those English dudes would drag a red herring around to teach the dog to follow the scent of the fox and not the fake, red herring odor which smells really bad after you've drug it around all day.
With that in mind, I'd just like to say that Cassel is much more similar to a dead, dragged fish than Joe Montana. FAX |

This whole season, the Chiefs have done everything they could to put Matt Cassel in a position to succeed. For the most part, he's done that. I'm happy about that, and I root for the guy.
The thing is, he's obviously a liability, and the Chiefs know it. They're trying to hide the deficiencies of the most important player on the field. That just wont work in the end. To acheive the ultimate goal, we're going to need better than that. I like the guy, honestly. Wish him all the best, and as long as he's a Chief, I'll root for him to succeed. But nothing about him says "Super Bowl Quarterback" to me. So until we get one, he's just a place holder. |

However, the O.P. chose to go full retard with his "But today is proof positive that Cassel is NOT the answer. He will NOT be a franchise quarterback. He simply doesn't have the ability or the intelligence that is required. He never really progressed this season" bullshit, and that's what I've been posting about. Cassel's not Brady/Manning/Brees. Then again, pretty much no quarterbacks are. The question is whether or not he can be Brad Johnson/Trent Dilfer/Matt Hasselbeck/Jake Delhomme/Chris Chandler/Rich Gannon. |

There were two occasions whee Bowe was wide open or at least had a step on his man with no safety help that he waved his arm to show how open he was and wasnt even looked at. After the first quarter it seemed Cassel simply gave up trying to get the ball to him. There were another three or four times that came across the middle that he was (as reaper said) NFL open. Moeaki was open another three times at minimum.
What was equally disappointing was the fact that the defense was giving Bowe a 8-10 yard cushion for a lot of the game and we didn't run a couple quick slants to make them expect his presense. Very disapointing play calling IMO It wasn't just those things with Cassel that were deflating about his play. He was obviously scared in the second half. His body language after a bad play was poor. He threw the intentional grounding ball 20 yards (minimum) past anyone. He watched the pass rush instead of continuing with his reads like the bad old days. He didn't protect the ball when hit. He threw every pick right to the defender. When the guy threw his picks, nobody seemed to go up to him to pat him on the back or give condolendes, he stood alone more times than not.

And there's the rub. I couldn't care less if the answer to this question is yes. I want better.
