Cassel did, does, and will always suck

I had backed off on my Cassel hate in the second half of the season because he actually started to play with a modicum of competence. But I never stopped being wary of him, because he was playing well against shitty, shitty ****ing teams.

But today is proof positive that Cassel is NOT the answer. He will NOT be a franchise quarterback. He simply doesn't have the ability or the intelligence that is required. He never really progressed this season; he just managed to not shit himself against the NFC West.

Can we all just agree that he's not the answer? Please?

Would you all rather have this years version of Matt Cassel or the 2007 (or whatever season it was when Green got hurt) version of Damon Huard? Or would you rather kill yourself with either?

Grantland's Bad Quarterback League predicts Palko will put up over 100 points in bad quarterbacking if and when Cassel goes out. I agree Stanzi should stay on the game day active roster. And if Matt Cassel could throw past 30 yards that might keep a safety honest.

Cassel has three years starting experience now and is 29 years old. He isn't suddenly going to bloom into a franchise QB. He is what he is.

If they had gone the Sanchez route instead. I doubt I'd be overly thrilled right now either.

Yep. He reached his ceiling last year. That's the best he can and will ever be. There's absolutely 0 reasons to not look elsewhere for a QB after this season, and possibly sooner if things go like they have in the last 3 or so regular season games. If we stick with him beyond this season, any faith I have in Pioli and Hunt is gone. Completely gone.

I've been a mild Cassel supporter, but I am getting to the point where I have seen enough. He teases you with great games like against Seattle, but he can't do it consistently. It seems to me that he gets ruined for long stretches after a game with bad pass protection. He panics and doesn't make good decisions.

He's a good guy, works hard, athletic....he just doesn't seem to have the ice water in the veins that very good QBs need. Our offensive line is good at run-blocking but not pass-blocking, and I am not sure that's a good fit with Cassel.

I really can't believe that Charlie Weis had such an impact with this team. I'm surprised these guys can take a leak without pissing their pants without Charlie reminding them to lower their zipper all the way.

Cassel could play against a defensive front of midgets, and still struggle to get the ball downfield.

Ok I think I found something interesting concerning Contracts and such. Specifically Matt Cassel.

http://www.rotoworld.com/teams/contr...as-city-chiefs

7/14/2009: Signed a six-year, $63 million contract. The deal contains $28 million guaranteed, including a $10 million roster bonus in the first year.
2011: $4.75 million (+ $7.5 million option bonus),
2012: $5.25 million,
2013: $7.5 million,
2014: $9 million, 2015: Free Agent

I am not sure what the heck the option bonus is or what he has to do to get it. Unfortunately if this is correct the 5.25 million is just slightly ahead of what he is getting this year with out the bonus. So if I were a GM I would more then likely keep him at that amount since it seems friendly. The 7.5 and 9 million might be getting to far out there and a cut would be in order there unless they re-work the contract.

If we are looking at the new Rookie wage scale, here is the Cam Newton contract and since he was number 1pick, it can probably be thought that Andrew Luck would be getting this type of contract.

7/29/2011: Signed a four-year, $22.025 million contract. The deal is fully guaranteed, including a $14.518 million signing bonus.

Huard was the QB for a team that made the playoffs with an average (maybe slightly above-average) defense, Larry Johnson at RB and Gonzo as his best receiver, with no great wideouts. Cassel is the QB for a team that could be in the running to have the league's worst record, with Jamaal Charles at RB and a much more talented team in general. The one thing that Huard had that Cassel doesn't (other than the ability to be an average NFL QB) was Gonzo. Cassel's got a better running game, better WRs, about the same OL and DEF. Give me Huard.
