Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

While I was originally not a fan of the USP trigger, my current favorite that I would pick if I choose to carry would be my HK45C. Nice compact format, incredibly reliable and packs a nice punch. How it's built has made me reconsider the HKs to the point I'm trying to see if I can get my hands on a Mark 23 before they finally go out of production.

Now if you're talking ultra concealability then the 9mm is probably still your only choice, but I like my punch versus size trade off o the HK45C. And even in the small package the recoil really is manageable.

If I needed something tiny I'd probably try out something like this. It really is a novel design. Boberg Arms XR9, super small and yet can still shoot 9MM+P. Because of it's design it gets nearly fullsize velocity out of a compact design.

I'm also getting trigger jobs on both my XDm and USP. My buddy picked up a totally tricked out XD from a gunsmith recently, and after firing that my current triggers feel mushy as shit by comparison.

http://www.bobergarms.com/
Until recently, I'd never fired one that I cared for, and that one is way out of my price range. I used to have a Beretta Mini-Cougar .45. It wasn't very accurate, and I also kept forgetting about the short grip when I'd slap in a fresh extended mag and end up pinching the crap out of my hand. Ironically, it would also make a nice carry weapon, but again, I never thought this would happen here. The ammo is also far more expensive than 9 or 40. I wouldn't mind getting a smaller .40.

Full sized frame, hard to conceal. I've got a 1991A1 and while I have carried it CCW its difficult and uncomfortable to do even with a heavy jacket on.
Full sized Colt is better as a sidearm than CCW.

Yeah, I meant to state it as I wanted a 5" first for recreational shoot etc, then get a 1911 thats smaller like Ultra Carry or Pro Carry etc

I have a S & W 1911, and carried it for a while. It was too large (and I'm 6'2 205) for summer time, but fine for winter.

I love shooting my 1911, and it sits on my nightstand, and in a holster next to my console in my truck, but the SW J frame goes with me outside of the car.

Fellas - if any shots were fired from an AR today, better get one ASAP.

The government won't have a prayer of taking back guns you've already purchased, but you can bet your ass that they'll get to work on making it harder to get your hands on one, which will certainly drive the cost up if not make it outright prohibitive to get them.

Additionally, as noted in the Bonus thread, I'm buying my Beretta. Bud's Guns has them online, but does anyone else have a place they would recommend me look for the best price on a Beretta 96 or Taurus 100?

Yep...and ammo, probably.

On a side note, has anyone bought a handgun from a family member? What are the legal requirements for that? Obviously I need a handgun license, but I assume the gun will have to be legally transferred to me?

Buds is nearly impossible to beat. Even my local guy only charges 10% over cost has a hard time matching their price sometimes..

No sales tax makes Buds an even better deal.

Yeah, and I've never heard a cross word about them. Everyone seems to love them. I'll probably go that route.

Well, good deal - found a local guy that appears to be able to get it at the same price as Buds (actually, about $10 cheaper).

http://www.zkguns.com/

I'll have to pay taxes, so it'll cost me more in the end, but it'll develop a relationship with the local gun shop and kick a little money into the local economy, so I think I'll go that route.

And it's bought. Should be here by Friday.

I actually went with the Taurus model instead because A) It's a few bucks cheaper but B) I like the frame mounted safety much better than the one on the rail. That's just an awkward spot for a safety.

Wicked.
