When was the first sighting of the first Prima Donna wide receiver

This question came up at a lunch meeting today.

When did the first sighting of this pretty lady bird occur?

Long before Terrell Eldorado Owens....

What caused this new species to emerge?

Lack of defense rules where cornerbacks could head hunt?

24 hour news media?

Our Chief's Bowe has latent Prima Donna tendencies. Is it curable?

I dont think it's curable. Didn't you see Bowe at the Pro-Bowl?

Good question.

Keyshawn might have been the first of the big-name ones. You had minor prima donnas like Irving Fryar and John Jefferson before that, but Keyshawn is the first one I remember whose ego was over the top. It made it all the more funny that he wasn't that good.

Edit: Andre Rison. Andre Rison may have been the first.

Because that's how the Giants get ****ed out of Plaxico Burress. And how the Chiefs lost Bowe for 4 games. And how the Eagles get forced to make personnel decisions they don't want to. And how the Bengals have no leadership at the coach position.

It ends up being a "me-first" mentality, which can kills the team mentality, which undermines a lot of very talented teams.

It's a big deal if he shits all over everything you are trying to accomplish because he didn't get enough looks in a particular game.

Dancing in the endzone is fine; not an issue for me. I'm talking about the coach-killers out there when I talk about "diva WR's."
