Easton Area School District teacher accused of sexually assaulting 7-year-old girl

BATH | A 51-year-old Easton Area Middle School teacher is charged with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl and possessing child pornography at his borough home, police said.

Stephen A. Sullivan and the girl went shopping for Christmas presents in December 2009, according to court documents. They bought presents for her family and body lotion for her, documents say.

The two know each other, and she is not an Easton student, police said.

While wrapping the presents at Sullivan's apartment, he asked the girl if she wanted to see a movie then showed the girl a pornographic film on his computer, documents say. She described in detail to police what she saw in the film and what the man in the film looked like.

After the movie, Sullivan removed her clothes and molested her, records say. He told the girl she could not tell anyone or he would go to jail, records say.

Colonial Regional Police Detective Gary Hammer said the accuser several weeks ago came forward to report the abuse.

Easton Area School District has been notified of the allegations, Hammer said. School district officials did not return e-mail and phone messages questioning Sullivan's employment status.

Steve Sullivan is listed as a social studies teacher on the Easton Area Middle School 5-6 website. Sullivan has been teaching at the district for nine years, according to state data. His 2008-09 salary was $52,318.

Police on Feb. 17 searched Sullivan's apartment and found files in his bedroom closet containing 13 images of preteen girls either completely or partially undressed, court documents say.

The search turned up several flash drives, floppy disks and CDs, including a flash drive labeled Easton Area School District.

The standard penalty for sex crimes when children are involved should be execution. These are animals who cannot be rehabilitated and do not deserve the effort.

You are over the top and a disgrace to our Founding Fathers. The penalty fits the crime in America. We don't take life unless one has taken life in this country and shouldn't. He did not kill her. She's still alive and can be helped. No doubt, he should be put away.

words can describe neither the length of or type of pain and torture I'd inflict on this sick **** if it was my kid. the japanese would appear boring and cliche'd in comparison.

Absolutely, she is still alive. After he robbed her of her childhood. After instilling all kinds of psychiatric issues for her to deal with her whole life.

One could argue that he, in a sense, did kill her for she will never be the same. He definitely killed the person she would have become.

That being said to me the punishment does fit the crime.

Small consolation, but inmates will take care of this guy for a society that lacks the courage to do what needs to be done.

Probably not. Prisons are full of molesters and they seem to do just fine.

Eh...unless something has changed in the last decade or two, inmates have no tolerance for pedophiles. I'd bet google could quickly identifiy numerous cases where justice has been served by inmates.

I knew someone would say something like this but it's still not taking her physical life. So his suffering for the rest of his life is comparable. You don't think he's ruined his own life too?
Furthermore, it does not have to ruin the girl forever in every area of her life. It can be overcome with the right help.

This is nothing but a cruel impulse that would degrade our society.

I doubt they would based on what they discussed and that drawing and quartering people wasn't used by them. I'm sure molestation went on back then too. Since it happens in families.

Yeah, I bet you could find a few instances where that happened. I bet you could find thousands and thousands where it didn't, too.

Assumption: Molesters are in more danger than anyone else in prison.

Fact: Every day, molesters are released from prison to continue doing what they were doing before.
