Sorter: RPO discussion

I saw a guy recently that said the easiest way to defend RPO was to go man to the side of the back. It makes sense that that side is the read side for the Q, but I'm curious if you've seen much to the other side.

Not Sorter- but there are a couple ways to defend run/pass option offense.

Good read on it:

Good article. In that, the read player was always to the RB side, as well. I'm just curious if anyone has seen a lot of reads to the side away from the RB.

I would think by playing MTM on the back side, you're always going to have a numbers problem unless you specifically man the QB.

We use to run like a counter with the RB crossing the face of the QB but we always read the DE/OLB both ways.

You really wouldn't read backside in the examples from the article. I can see it happening in like a 2x2 set with a jet option. Other thing you can do is just line up in 2x2 pistol and choose which side to run the RPO based on what the defense is showing... just have to alert the oline/rb which side you are reading, or it gets called in from sideline. doesn't matter really.

Cool article aspen.

I've always been leary of the backside jet against big fast de. If you catch them pinching like the buckeyes were doing its great but it's alot of ball handling in potentially congested areas.
