Shoulder Replacement

I have seen a few threads before about knee replacements and the success they have had..so I'm curious about if any has had or knows anyone with a shoulder replacement

I'm looking for how long it was to rehab..I have a job coming up in Afghanistan in about 4 months and need to know if I'm looking at desk duty or if I can do my job and go do Infidel things

Will be drinking antifreeze will sitting in the AIDS tree waiting for your collective knowledge

LOL @ Infadel things.

Dad said shoulders are worse than knees, that are worse than hips, so it's probably the worst of all the replacements.

Dad was around working 6 weeks after having both knees done at the same time. So, probably longer than that.

I think it really depends on what all soft tissue (read: pretty much just rotator cuff) they have to fix while they're rooting around in there.

It is normally about two months before you can even begin physical therapy and then 6 months before you can resume normal activity without feeling much different according to my brother. IIRC it was a little over a year though before he stopped going to see the doctor for post-op visits.

I've been told by several people that shoulders are a brutal, brutal rehab. And that's just for run of the mill surgeries, not replacements.

I've been putting mine off for over 15 years. The day I can't use my right arm anymore, I'll consider getting it done.

Or when I finally learn to wipe my ass left handed, whichever comes first.

I have done 5 surgeries on my shoulder trying to get it fixed but it never seems to do the trick..so this is my last resort to try and get it fixed..as far as rehab for normal surgeries go they suck but weren't that bad for me..the key was stretching and moving my shoulder as much as possible to keep it from getting stiff

4 months is about right IF all you have is a minor cuff problem. According to your post....shoulder replacement.....

I've never heard of anyone getting a shoulder. From what I know, the healing time would be insanely long because of lack of blood flow to that area. Small rotator cuff surgeries are very difficult to recover from, and that's only one tiny piece. I can't imagine going in and plowing through the whole thing.

We can rebuild him; we have the technology.

I have had cartilage from a dead body put in my shoulder to try and fix it..I hadn't heard of that for shoulders and my Dr said it was new for shoulders whenever he did it..I still get shivers thinking about who could be in my shoulder

While rehabbing a knee I had some pool time with a guy that was coming off a shoulder replacement. He had already been through a knee and a hip (I think that he played rugby with cars or something) and he said that he regretted doing the shoulder. It's apparently maximum pain.

How old are you? I had mine done at 50 and 6 mos later still couldn't get my hand over my head. Shoulder is the longest of the rehabs. 3 years later I still feel it.
