White House releases Obama's birth certificate

(CNN) – The White House released President Obama's original birth certificate Wednesday.

The surprise release follows recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, that raised doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Trump said, "I have accomplished something nobody else has accomplished."

"I want to look at it, but i hope it’s true," he added. "He should have done it a long time ago. I am really honored to have played such a big role in hopefully getting rid of this issue."

Earlier Wednesday, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said the debate has been "really bad for the Republican Party."

The so-called "birther" debate is "good politics" but "bad for the country," said Pfeiffer.

White House spokesman Jay Carney is expected to speak more about the birth certificate Wednesday morning.

Its about time. I will wait and see what the sportshrinks of the world have to say about this. Hopefully this means they will finally start being forthcoming about his past. I have always said I thought he was born in hawaii but I couldn't understand why they wouldn't release it if there was nothing embarrassing to come from it. I guess we'll see what the Birthers reaction is. I don't think this answers any questions about the authenticity of the story of his life crafted for his memoirs but it's good to see something released we should have seen 3-4 years ago.

Fortunately we can still vote him out for being the shittiest president in modern history, we don't need this.

Well, it looks like it was released from Hawaii on April 25. I guess that contradicts all those who claimed that it COULDN'T be released to Obama. I forget who it was here who claimed that. One of our Hawaiian members, IIRC.

No kidding, I'm shocked he did it. It may have made sense before last election or right after when the howls of questioning became louder, but why now? If you've gone this far, you may as well take advantage.

Hell, I was beginning to think the following might play out:

Unless Obama and his team has decided that the birthers have worked themselves into a fever-pitch where nothing will convince them, they will start to shout even louder, and THAT will help ensure his re-election? Who knows.
