What do you think happens with the people buying groceries on food stamps if there were no food stamps? What would happen to the grocery store's sales? Would the grocery store have to hire more or less people after the change?
Literally, it is stimulative. Is it good policy? That's a different question. But claiming it doesn't have stimulative effects is just economically backwards wrong.

Unlike rich people, poor people spend every spare dollar they have here in the US. And we do live in a consumer-based economy. So money given to the poor to spend on food is guaranteed to equal more money spent on consumption.
Like banyon said, you can argue that it's bad policy, not worth it in the long run, etc. But to argue that it's not stimulative just shows total ignorance of economics. |

Obama's economic policies then are good for America. More poor folk on unemployment and food stamps is good for jobs and good for America.

It certainly is stimulative in the sense that for every dollar of food stamps given, some huge percentage of that is being put back into the economy by the recipient who instead of buying food with that dollar, instead pays his rent, or buys whatever else.
Point being that not many cents of that dollar are put in a bank account...
