Ding ding Joplin schools back in session

It has been absolutely amazing what has been accomplished getting the schools up and running. My daughter's school had been hit and I was wondering how they were going to throw together a makeshift school in such a short time. I went there Monday and I have to tell you, if the building wasn't located in the middle of an industrial park you couldn't have told it was an old factory. It has the definite feel of a permanent school.

Thanks for all the volunteers and donations. Three months later, it still warms the heart.

I've been in pretty close contact with the new education reporter over at the Joplin Globe, who's a really good friend of mine. She was also amazed with all of the progress.

Truly remarkable. I think the funniest thing is the fact that the schools have been blowing up my phone the past week. I literally have received 20 automated phone calls, out of which half were telling me absolutely not to buy school supplies. Apparently every student gets a free backpack on the first day full with all the supplies they would need.

My department donated around 300 textbooks and anthologies for use at the High School. I hope they have a great year!
