Random Thoughts on the Game.

I watched 3 quarters before nodding off. Didn't rewind it or watch anything twice. My gut reactions:

1. Cassel - I don't know what to think. On one hand he was tossing some bullets into tight windows for Bowe, but Bowe really wasn't open. He has no chemistry with any receiver other than Bowe. Looks lost ever since Weis packed it in in week 15. He needs to play 3 full quarters next game and show something. (On a side note, Smith is going to be a monster corner for the Ravens. Wow, man-on-man on Bowe and even though a few passes were complete, the kid had really good coverage.)

2. Palko - On one hand, I want to give him credit for facing a mean pass rush every play and making something happen. On the other hand, throwing balls like your making a fade-away jump shot can't be good long term. I'd like to see him work with a better OL. At least he didn't melt under pressure and was able to spread the ball around. He made the Ray Farmer chicken salad sandwich.

3. DL - first string DL did a good job against the run. TJax had a better game than Dorsey. He commanded double teams and got some pressure. LB's filled gaps nicely.

4. Pass D - horrible. The stats might not show it, but the Ravens had WR's open on 3rd and long all night long. They didn't always complete the pass because Flacco was bit erratic (albeit not under pressure), but guys were open. Bolden getting behind all of our secondary?? Seemed like the Ravens had no problem picking on Flowers.

5. Dex. Looked good out of the backfield. If he and Charles can stay healthy, they might be able to do some damage utilizing a west coast type passing attack.

6. Backup OL - Whoever scouts and evaluates collegiate OL should be fired.

That's it. I'm looking forward to game 3 the see the first units play into the third quarter (unless Haley does some BS limited playing time.) Haley needs to not get upset when other teams run the score up, just prepare the team better.

Our 2nd and 3rd team OL play is some of the most disgusting football I've ever seen from the Chiefs.

Cassel was putting the ball in good spots. I'm not worried, especially because we appeared to not even be calling plays that required him to read a defense for the most part.

I wasn't ecstatic over his game but didn't see anything to be worried about.

I forgot to add Justin Houston. I can't believe how raw he is. He must be a phenomenal athlete to get all the pressure he does, because he lacks any and all technique. He plays way upright.

No thoughts on walking over to the sideline & throwing your cleat at a coach's feet. Then walking back on the field & setting down?

Cassel did fine as did Palko. If you aren't going to play your stud RB And the Oline is questionable, two weeks into preseason against a top D is not the place to evaluate your offense.

I thought Flowers played fine. The Oline look like it was behind the rest of the team. Where was Breaston? Urban? Defensively, the new additions a re coming around, offensively, the same weaknesses haven't been answered.

Thats how I feel. I didn't see him really go through progression except for maybe the completion to Breaston, but it really did seem like the play-calling didn't allow him to go through progressions. That being said there were a few passes he shouldn't have made that he seemed to decide no matter what I am going to make this pass.

I think we saw a glimps of the vision Pioli & Haley had when they drafted McCluster. I think he will have a role of being a special threat out of the backfield & as he develops down the road (couple years), they will utilize him into a slot reciever just to make things interesting for the defenses to handle.

Sure Dex needs to pass block & that is in the works, but not GoChiefs can deny the kids got SKILLZZZ.

Our first team isn't exactly world beaters. Its the biggest weakness on this team. The 3rd stringers cant block air.

Is Mike Solari working anywhere? can we get him back as OL coach? He sucked as a OC but OL coach he rocked.
