My folders with pictures in them open as thumbnail by default. WP gave you a choice (I believe under 'View') to view "as list," "by icons," etc. I don't see that option readily available with W7. I cannot believe they took it away. So where is it hidden?

Look for the little button shown in the background here that will be in the upper right part of the folder window. Click it, and select List.

Or you can right click somewhere in the pane and it brings up a menu where you can select what you want from the view menu.
