It really is quite interesting.

It is weird though because success means he is moving on. But hey...that is still success right?

This hire says "right now...at this second we don't want to be a joke of a program." we want to win some damn games.

I would say so.

Could he give that much of a jump start.

Could someone after him inherit success if he has some success?

From the outside looking in. The whole thing is intriguing.

Exactly. They probably didn't want to take another chance on another Gill hire, but they aren't exactly in a great position to pick up a Mike Leach.

As much as I dislike the hire, it still beats the shit out of having Gill as our HC.

Yes it does. It's basically saying, "we want to be bigtime". I guess we have that going for us.

Well, yeah. He probably dies by then. I thought Kansas would go for a younger guy who would be looking to build the program and stay on longer. I suppose this would classify as a "splash" hire if that is what the donors wanted.

If Kansas doesn't improve marginally the next two years, Zenger is going to be in some hot water.

I will be interested to see how much they paid him to come to Lawrence.

yep.

He won't be here for the long haul but he makes KU a national splash right away.

Gotta give SZ a B+ on this one.

In all honesty, it's the exact kind of hire I suggested with Fullmer or Barnett (the one that cause Zeke to flip his shit).

It's a stop-gap hire. It's a guy they brought in with the hopes that he can make the job more respectable for their next hire.

Blow me, Zeke.

Ultimately, that's all they can hope for... someone who can spend years building the program. But, with all the pressure to get rid of Gill, it's easy to see why they didn't hire another up and coming guy.

My stance with any HC, whether it's Gill, Haley, and even Herm, has been that I don't want those teams to get in the habit of hiring a different HC every few years. But, 2 of the 3 I mentioned really had to go. KU FB could have 4 different coaches in a 5-7 year span, which would make it that much harder to find the next guy if Weis doesn't improve the team.

Wow, DJ. never really got up in arms about anything that I can recall. I think Weis is completely different for a large number of reasons. #1 being he doesn't completely suck as a coach (Barnett) and #2 he isn't a walking time bomb with the NCAA and police report (Fulmer). The only real similarity is that he's an experienced head coach.. I didn't like those two specific candidates, not the choice of experience. I like this hire on some aspects, and others raise concerns.. but it is what it is.

Just don't go out of your way to pat yourself on the back by mincing your theories.
