2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

This morning I had a dream that Chris Getz and Jose Guillen worked at Subway and they were planting explosives in people's sandwiches.

Interpretation, anyone?

You're guilty about screwing around on your girlfriend that worked at Quizzno's when you were nineteen.

Also, you're sick of watching a losing franchise.

Royals Notes: Francoeur, Myers, Greinke
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [June 12, 2012 at 1:01pm CST]

The Royals' offense, which ranked sixth in the American League a year ago, now sits next-to-last in scoring with 224 runs. Here's the latest on the 24-34 Royals, before their series with the Brewers begins...

Wil Myers’ tremendous minor league numbers have put Jeff Francoeur on the trading block, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. The Royals could potentially part with Francoeur and call up Myers without damaging the team’s credibility in the short term. However, the Royals intend to be patient with Myers and Francoeur’s two-year $13.5MM contract could deter some suitors.
Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star explains that Zack Greinke could be a fit in Kansas City this offseason, despite the apparently acrimonious conclusion to his first stint with the Royals. Greinke, a free agent after the season, requested a trade from the Royals following the 2010 season, since he didn’t believe they were close to contending. Billy Butler has had critical words for Greinke in the past, but he’d welcome the right-hander back. “A lot of things get overshadowed when you have that type of talent,” Butler said.

I'm sure we may be dangling Frenchy but no one wants him with that extra year.

Considering we won’t get much more than a bucket of balls for Frenchy, would it be detrimental to keep him?

Is this a case where we try to eat his salary to get something good in return? Or get nothing in return but get (most of) his salary off the books to have some cash in the offseason?

What if I kidnapped David Glass during the offseason and forced him at gunpoint to pony up the money to sign Josh Hamilton? Any objections?

I'm great with keeping him because A.) I don't believe that Glass will spend the money even if we get his contract off the books and B.) I have no confidence in Moore to make an astute acquisition of ML talent even if he would be able to spend the money.

However, I've heard rumblings on the radio about Frenchy being a pain in the ****ing ass when he's not an everyday player. If this ends up being the case should his role become restricted once Myers arrives, I'd gladly eat some of Frenchy's contract to get his ass off the team and out of the clubhouse.

Finally, it's hard to wait two weeks to see OdorEazy and Myers. I'm more impatient about the former because I'm spooked about injuries to starting pitchers.

If we don't see both once the Super 2 deadline passes, open season management.

Given the way he acts on/off the field, I have a hard time believing the 28-year old version of Jeff Francouer behaves the way the 24/25 year old Frenchy behaved. I just can't see him being an asshole about it. But we really don't have to worry about it for this year. Cain won't be back, so we can roll with an outfield of Gordon, Myers, Frenchy. Any lineup that doesn't include Dyson is just fine with me.

Change it to a legit #1 starter for the rotation, and we could probably raise your bail money for you.
