With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Heck man, I'd say extend him a few years in the offseason and make him part of the long-term outlook. He's young enough to slot in with Butler and Gordon as the "vets" on the teams we hope will contend coming up.

That's part 1 of my "Makes Total Sense but Probably Won't Happen" plan. Part 2 is signing another pitcher in free agency.

Dempster is the far more prized option from that team. Garza has not put up the kind of numbers to merit a huge return. Also the Cubs need everything so I am sure we could give them more than most teams.

We absolutely should trade frenchy, yuni, dyson and bourgeois for long-term pitching prospects. Then we should expand the payroll to 100mm and sign two of greinke, marcum or hammel. If we stack pitching for 2015 and beyond, we may be able to resign our best hitters and keep payroll steady. Jmo.

Garza talk on the ESPN Rangers blog. Sounds like the Cubs want young pitching (who doesn't) and a young 3rd baseman. Would you do Montgomery and Cuthbert for Garza?

Considered a level below Greinke/Hamels, but I look at his numbers and see a guy that would be f'ing Cy Young compared to what we've seen in our rotation the last 20 years (save for Greinke). 197 K's in 198 innings last year, with an ERA just over 3. Proven, consistent performance and here through next season? Absolutely.

That's fine. Even at that price, if you keep Garza only through the end of this deal, you get comp picks for him when he laves.

You're not getting real prospects for any of the four you mention. Every org has guys like Dyson and Bourgereois. And most orgs probably chuckle that the R's throw Frenchy and Yuni out there on a daily basis.

Meche gave a year of his contract back and Glass stuck it in his pocket. Wonder how Gil feels about that?
