It's totally a lifestyle change (getting to a healthy weight) which is why I've so far avoided anything that's really "dieting". Because I always think of "dieting" as being a temporary fix to a permanent problem. So going low carb or doing severe caloric restriction doesn't really appeal to me because it's not really something I can see myself doing for the long term. The closest thing to what I want to do for the rest of my life is probably paleo, but that's only in the sense that I want to (permanently) restrict how much processed food I eat, and try to get to a point where I'm almost exclusively cooking for myself. Sugar and wheat in moderation, a lot of lean fish and fowl, a lot of vegetables and fruit. Of course it's a challenge even to do that much, after being conditioned for so many decades to eat all of the stuff that I enjoy the most.

I think I'm going to switch to Paleo once I hit my goal weight, but I won't ever eat refined sugar/bread/pasta/etc.

Food is a means of fuel, not entertainment.

Ensure you put the best fuel in your body every time, and then worry about making it taste good.

Good for you. I don't see the purpose in having cheat days. Cheat days tells me it's a diet. If you're making a lifestyle change, what's the point in having cheat days? Do people who quit smoking have cheat days when they smoke? You do what you feel is right for you. I'm proud of your accomplishments, and I applaud your resolve.

That's part of your lifestyle.

To enjoy something disgustingly awesome from time to time.

March will test my mettle. This is the month that I will transition into dietary maintenance and no longer pursue measurable weight loss. Sounds like a daunting balancing act.

Not a good month, but not surprising. Three family birthday parties, multiple client lunches/dinners and some not so great choices lead to a one pound gain this month.

My wife has had some consulting work recently, so as soon as she gets paid, I'll be buying a bike and will start riding it to work whenever possible.

1/1/12 - 272
1/31/12 - 260
3/1/12 - 261

YTD Loss - 11

I'm at 180 & I don't know if I can get any lower. We'll see what happens, but my guess is that my lifting will cause me to gain about 5 lbs by the end of the year.

You may want to get lower, you expect your chicks to be at 80, so as of now you have 100 lbs on them.
