I also have zero posts in the KU football thread. And I wouldn't go to Kansas to take a shit, much less live there.
Sadly I have to drive through it to go to Missouri to see family and have to drive back through it to go home.

That's about the only reason to be there. For me, that state is Iowa.

That may be so, but that wasn't my argument. My argument was that they do, indeed, have options. Let me put it this way. If ESPN came down with a 50 million per school per year option for 16 teams across the country to form the "mother-of-all-super conferences", all of those teams would listen, I don't care how stable the conference is. Having options is not the same as exercising options, and that's my point.

First of all, the PAC went hunting a year after Missouri indicated they would like to be B!G. The next year, the B!G announced it wanted to expand and Missouri thought they would be that school and openly solicited it. People suspected the PAC wanted to expand, they just didn't yet realize how much. Once the B!G made its Mizzou intentions known, CU bolted for the PAC and the PAC wanted the Texas and Oklahoma schools as well. So, they know two conference members are gone, and the PAC overtures have made everyone nervous. So, of course, you listen. Then, A&M said they didn't want to go to the PAC and started talking with the SEC. Its hard to put that shit storm on the shoulders of one school when you have three conferences talking to various members.

Well, as we know, realignment isn't about "much else" other than football. To be fair, they have a pretty decent baseball team. Certainly WVU was miffed that the ACC didn't select them, like FSU wanted, and probably made a mistake going with two basketball schools, time will tell. There were rumors the SEC also considered them, and if the SEC motivations were about the football product alone, they probably would have taken them. But the SEC wants a TV network and for that, they need viewers. Missouri has them, WVU doesn't. I know Mizzou fans may not like to be reminded about that, but that's the reason Missouri was attractive. it was their state TV markets, not the on field success (or lack thereof) of the football program.

I suppose it could be a fight between the ACC and B12 if it comes to that, but I think the ACC has been seriously out maneuvered in that regard. I'm not so sure how inevitable everything is, though. I think the SEC will eventually go to 16, because 14 is just an ugly number. I don't know that the others will follow right away unless they change the rules an allow a conference semi finals to the CCG. If that occurs, then the race will be on and the ACC leftovers will merge with the Big East and try to hold onto some sort of basketball reputation.

Yes but the B12 wasn't. The Big 8 had a population problem and the SWC had a competition problem. The B12 wrote completely new by-laws, it wasn't like conference expansion is now, where you join their club. The B12 was more like a merger with some SWC casualties.

I understand, nuances can be difficult for you.

Mmm, needs to insult in order to make his argument appear stronger, OK....

Your ASSUMPTION is that is the reason UT didn't go. And, if one simply wants to make a simplistic argument not taking into account the entirety of the dynamics at play at that time, then that might seem like the only argument.

So, let me refresh the situation at that time. A&M was openly flirting with the idea of going to the SEC. UT did not want this to happen. OU, sensing the conference may be coming apart, made their "wallflower" declaration, and began to court the PAC. UT was now in a situation of which rivalry they wanted to preserve the most. OU was the important rivalry and they knew(or at least strongly suspected), the PAC would not take OU and OSU without UT in the package. So they cut bait with A&M and played a game with OU and the PAC. OU needed to see their value was much less without UT, so UT made the LHN this intractable issue they knew the PAC wouldn't accommodate. So, UT pulls out, the PAC decides they don't want OSU (a polite way of telling OU their worth wasn't as great without UT), and the conference begins to start over until Missouri decides they don't want to be there any longer despite all their concerns being addressed.

UT doesn't want to travel to the west coast to play its games, and if you want to believe something different, then everyone is entitled to their distorted view of reality.

Big12 isn't going anywhere and its becoming one of the strongest conferences. The new playoff rule plays into both the SEC's and Big12's favor. End of discussion.

Kansas is the bottom feeder of the Big12 and Mizzou will be bottom-middle of the pack in the SEC. I can see why Kansas doesn't want to add Mizzou to the schedule, because its already going to be nearly impossible for them to ever be bowl eligible as it is and they don't have the balls that ISU has playing Iowa every year. Oh that's right, we don't suck anymore.

Bill Self defends CU series

KU coach: ‘We have a great relationship with Colorado’

By Gary Bedore

The Coors Events Center, home of the Colorado Buffaloes.

Some Missouri fans, radio talk show callers and Internet message board posters were grumbling last week when it was revealed that Kansas University and Colorado would begin a home-and-home men’s basketball series next season.

KU coach Bill Self, who was on vacation when the furor hit, was asked by the Journal-World about playing former Big 12 member Colorado of the Pac-12 while having no plans to schedule former Big 12 member MU of the SEC.

“We have a great relationship with Colorado, plus we have 4,000 to 5,000 fans in Western Kansas. That’s an opportunity to see us play whenever we play in Boulder,” Self said of fans who likely will find tickets to the game during the 2013-14 season at Coors Events Center. This year’s game is in Allen Fieldhouse.

“It’s a great deal for us and our fans. We are playing a KU grad (CU coach Tad Boyle), who has done a remarkable job there in a short amount of time,” Self added.

As far as the nitty-gritty of the issue ...

“No one ever held Colorado responsible for them leaving the league. They did something they felt they had to do,” Self said. “There were so many rumors they could be left out in the cold, too. Everybody respected that without question. There are no hard feelings there. With the climate, the landscape at that particular time (summer, 2010), with all the talk about Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, all those schools going to the Pac-10 back then ... all the talk before that about Missouri and Nebraska going to the Big Ten ... Colorado was just making sure they had a conference affiliation. No hard feelings about that.”

Ha even Brownback refuses to play MU

Brownback not too keen on continuing KU/MU series

The Kansas City Star

TOPEKA | There are lot of things that stir the soul at the Kansas capitol: Taxes, abortion, immigration, redistricting and the like.

But let's face it, that's all government stuff. When it comes to continuing the Mizzou/KU rivalry after this year, Gov. Sam Brownback seemed as opinionated about that as any other issue he discussed with the media Friday afternoon.

It was clear, if there was a bill outlawing them from playing each other again, Brownback wouldn't have a problem signing the legislation.

"I think the KU athletic director had it right," Brownback said. "This is like a guy divorcing you and saying, 'Can we still date?' I don't think so."

"Missouri is the one that started this thing three years ago in talking about going to the Big 10 and nearly cratered the whole thing. Kansas and K-State really would have been in a tough spot. Now, they're talking, 'Come on, can't we play.'"

"This has been very difficult for us."

No worries, guv. This PrimeBuzz correspondent's favorite college basketball team will enjoy having Mizzou in the SEC

Good luck with your journey into the SEC Mizzou.
I think you have your facts wrong Pleaase read on

As for the future?

"I would tell you right now just to take a step back and enjoy it for what it is in the moment," Zenger said. "History is made one chapter at a time, and this is one chapter. I'm very careful not to speak for those who went before us or those who will follow us. But we're living out our chapter as we speak."

Self has heard the arguments for playing on, particularly those framed in terms of what fans might want.
"People can get hung up on, 'Well, don't the fans deserve this or that?' You know what? Whose fans?" he said. "I haven't had one KU person, not one, send me an email or a letter or tell me we should play Missouri. Not one. And I've gotten numerous ones that said we should not."

While Self said he appreciated nice letters from Mizzou fans saying they hoped he'd reconsider, he added, "So I'm going to make a decision to try to make Mizzou fans happy? I mean, I'm not doing that. ... I don't see any reason to play anybody to help them. I think the reason you play somebody is to help us."

One reason he's resistant is because no scenario to play seems appropriate.

"We're going to go home-and-home every other year? We're going to play in Kansas City?" he said. "That ain't the same as it has been. It's not the same."

As the former coach at Illinois, Self is familiar with the possibilities of a neutral-court series with MU. He's heard Mizzou's points about other nonconference rivalries flourishing, such as Louisville-Kentucky and Clemson-South Carolina.

"To me, we've got to beat them to win the league. That game carries league significance. That's what makes that game so important. Playing them once a year? I personally don't feel the significance of it as much," he said. "The other thing is, Kentucky plays Louisville every year. Well, they've always played them every year (out of league). That's all they know.

I find it humorous that, whenever ku people use this metaphor, they always make themselves the woman in the relationship. It does come across a lot like PMS though.
