Outside of football and basketball, does anyone watch any college sports? I read the Little League WS outdrew the College WS once. Can anyone name a single college baseball player? This article says that 40% of ESPN college baseball viewers are in the Southeast so maybe they care.

I don't watch much. The CWS is great, though. Baseball in general is bigger in the south.

I was just reading a Longhorns site today where they were debating which was more popular at the University of Texas; basketball or baseball. It was pretty evenly split.

I enjoy a college Baseball game from time-to-time. Nothing like Football or Basketball though. And naming some of the best College Baseball players isn't that unheard of. Especially around MLB draft time in early June.

Looking forward to seeing how it translates to other devices and the how the digital stuff is. If it is anything as good as the ESPN stuff then that will be great.

The ESPN app on Xbox is outstanding. I am one of those people that cannot stand the regular ESPN programming like Sportscenter, Around the Horn and PTI, but the app can be filtered to only show live games that are happening now. I hope the SEC Network gets a similar app.

I watch some college softball and will catch a college baseball game every now and then. Other than a softball pitcher or two I can't name a single player on a team and most wouldn't even consider myself a "fan".

I do try to watch a lot of the softball tourney games and some of the little league world series games, but I don't know the last time I watched any of the College World Series.

SEC revenue set to jump 50% with playoff, new TV deals

Already home to many of the nation's best-financed college athletics programs, the Southeastern Conference is about two years from distributing at least $10 million -- and perhaps as much as $14 million -- more per school than it did during the 2011-12 fiscal year, a USA TODAY Sports analysis projects.

This would represent at least a 50% increase in the SEC's per-school take, which could get close to $34 million in 2014-15 and for a few years exceed the revenue each of the Big Ten Conference schools get from their shares of conference and NCAA revenues. In part because of the Big Ten Network's success, most Big Ten schools recently have been receiving $1 million to $4 million more per year than SEC schools roughly $23 million to $25 million apiece.

However, because of a pending re-configuration of the SEC's television arrangements and a major increase in postseason football payouts that will occur when the Bowl Championship Series is replaced by a four-team playoff in the 2014-15 season, SEC revenue is about to escalate dramatically.

The SEC has been renegotiating its long-term rights deals with ESPN and CBS to take into consideration the conference's recent additions of Missouri and Texas A&M. When those deals began in with the 2009-10 school year, they were worth $3 billion over 15 years (with the conference having grown to 14 schools, that now works out to an annual average of $14.3 million per school).

In an interview with USA TODAY Sports in mid-December, SEC commissioner Mike Slive all but said one outcome will be the formation of the conference's own network. "Given the networks that have been developed, is there room for any more?" Slive asked. "And the answer is: 'At least one.' "

The additional revenue will further separate the SEC schools from others in terms of overall revenue and expense, including the compensation paid to football coaches. In turn, this seems likely to increase the pressure on other schools to keep up.

According to data compiled by USA TODAY Sports:

--During the 2012 football season, the SEC had four of the eight highest-paid head coaches, four of the six highest-paid assistants and five of the 15 highest-paid assistant-coaching staffs.

--In terms of overall revenue and expense, the SEC had nine of the 19 highest-revenue athletics programs in 2010-11, the most recent year for which national figures are available (and Texas A&M, which was not yet in the SEC was 15th). It also had nine of the 20 highest-spending programs.

Assuming the conference maintains its current lineup of 14 members, the combination of new deals with ESPN and CBS, along with the formation of a 100% SEC-owned network, would bring the SEC schools nearly $23 million apiece in 2014-15, according to an estimate prepared for USA TODAY Sports by a college sports rights-valuation firm. The SEC's postseason football revenues with the playoff, combined with money the conference is likely to get from its men's basketball tournament and from the NCAA, would provide at least another $11 million, according to past SEC revenue-distribution announcements, NCAA revenue-distribution reports and financial documents and a person with direct knowledge of the playoff's revenue distribution plan.

The person who provided the playoff revenue details to USA TODAY Sports, spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject. The SEC TV revenue estimate comes from Navigate Research, a Chicago-based firm that is not currently working with the SEC but has done multimedia rights valuations for schools in various power conferences; the estimate is based on 15-year rights deals with ESPN and CBS that would be worth an annual average of $25 million per school (a total of $5.25 billion) and an SEC Network that while 100% conference-owned, like the Pacific-12's new network, primarily would have only one channel, like the Big Ten's.

A potentially significant variable in the SEC's per-school payouts is the amount of money that could be required for the start-up of a network and/or the amount of money the conference office needs to keep for operations.

SEC spokesman Craig Pinkerton said in an e-mail the conference "will hold with our policy of not discussing financial matters other than the end of the year distribution release that we send out," a release usually made in conjunction with the SEC's annual spring meeting in late May or early June.

How SEC schools potentially reach $34 million apiece in shared conference and NCAA revenues in 2014-15:

SEC television arrangements

ESPN and CBS contracts: $21.4 million per school ($300 million total)

Estimated to be worth $5.25 billion if new 15-year deals replace the 15-year deals that began with the 2009-10 school year. While the annual average would be $25 million per school, the deal likely would pay the school less in the early years, more in the later years.

SEC Network: $1.5 million per school ($21 million total)

A dedicated conference network is projected to have extremely good distribution among cable and satellite TV providers, especially in states where the conference has schools. It also may be attractive nationally.

Postseason football: At least $7.1 million per school ($100 million total)

With the new four-team playoff replacing the Bowl Championship Series and other new bowl arrangements, the SEC projects to get these total amounts in 2014-15 from the following sources:

--$50 million from the major conferences' playoff TV deal with ESPN; this is based on annual average over the life of a 12-year deal, so this amount may be lower in 2014-15.

--$40 million from its share of the Sugar Bowl, which will be operated under a new business model in which the SEC and the Big 12 primarily control the event.

--$6 million for having one team in a semifinal (the payout to conferences will be $6 million per semifinalist, so the SEC could get more than $6 million).

--$4 million for having one team in a so-called host bowl, one of the games outside the semifinals other than the Sugar Bowl.

Note: There will be no additional payouts to conferences based on teams advancing to, or winning, the championship game.

NCAA and other SEC revenue: $4 million per school ($56 million total)

--$15.3 million from the SEC football championship game.

--$4.9 million from the SEC men's basketball tournament.

--$33.7 million from the NCAA various revenue pools, including the men's basketball tournament fund.

The amounts listed here are the actual revenue amounts reported by the SEC for the football and men's basketball events in 2011-12 and the actual revenue total from the NCAA for 2010-11, the most recent one available. But they are not likely to increase dramatically. The football title game has been sold out annually; the basketball tournament revenue has been stable in recent years, according to SEC releases; and while the distribution from the NCAA may rise because of the additions of Missouri and Texas A&M and due to increases in NCAA revenue, the conference's expansion may offset an increase on a per-school basis. Also, some distributions from the NCAA are not shared equally.

So MU gained $1.5million per on the Tier 1&2 contract. They lose their $5million they used to keep for themselves on Tier 3. They wash out on the Sugar deal since its split with the Big 12. They may gain on BCS money if the SEC puts an extra team in the playoff but its split 14 ways not 10. The basketball is likely a wash . And they forfeited 13 million in penalties for leaving.

Is that about right?
