2007, lol. Lew Perkins threw one hell of a hookers and blow party for the selection committee while buying up an absurd number of seats to the Orange Bowl, and somehow that makes their season better than Mizzou's, who they lost to head to head. Whatever works, I guess.

I actually remember seeing an interview with one of the Orange Bowl selection committee people back then. He was visibly uncomfortable when he was asked why they chose Kansas over Missouri. I wish I knew the name of the guy or the interviewer so I could find it. It was pure gold watching him squirm when asked why they selected a team that didn't even win their conference to play in their BCS game, and if he thought that action would devalue the Orange Bowl.
Backed off what? I've been rooting for you guys to experience something like we did in 2007. It was the greatest season in the history of collegiate sport by a single university.

Fun times all around. I think this is the year ya'll bust through.

The other thing about B-Rush is that he never lied. Coach Self would be like, “Did everyone make curfew last night? If you didn’t make curfew, raise your hand.” All of us that broke curfew kept our hands down — except B-Rush. He’d raise his hand and tell on himself. Coach Self would ask him why he didn’t make curfew and he’d say, “Because the club was crackin’!” Everyone would laugh and he’d make B-Rush run a little bit.

If you believe that - and it's logical - then you must also agree Kansas proved they were better in 2008. Won head to head and both went 4-1 against the North. Have to pick a side and stick to it.

I'm also to believe VaTech is the 4th best team in the country according to that jibberish previously linked? More like top 15. KU exposed them for what they were which typically happens to that league that time of year.

It meant Kansas won the game but it doesn't prove they were better. Va Tech certainly could've won if they replayed it, just as Mizzou would beat Norfolk 9 out of 10 tries. That's my only point regarding head to head.

Florida pulling off the double in 2006-7 was better.

?

It's not the same thing. Our record in '07 including H2H was better. In '08 it is the same. No different than comparing OU and Kstate last year.

You can however provide a compelling argument that they proved they were on par w/ the Tigers in spite of the overall 2 game difference in the win column. The South Fla game is a clunker of an OOC we don't have on our resume but still it was by a fg on the road and was probably an outlier AND that was the year all those South teams went 11-1...I hadn't looked it up before you said that b/c they had 5 losses and had forgot KU's third South game that year was against Ttech. Considering OU and TX bombed us into submission in games that weren't remotely competitive there's not any reason to believe we'd have beaten the Red Raiders either.

To your second point there's no question that it's true VaTech could maybe win a rematch but I don't get into stuff like that w/o other evidence (Mizzou/Norfolk as you said or Southern Cal/Stanford in '07 are both dramatic examples, it doesn't have to be defining for me but I need something) b/c the games played are supposed to mean something and they do to me. If it's a conference opponent where we have a bunch of common opponents to compare such as what we've been discussing then sure. Last year for example, Kstate beat Oklahoma but I don't think they were better than the Sooners. Reason? They finished w/ the same league record. For every person that touts their H2H I point to the fact that OU beat Baylor, they didn't get housed by them like the Wildcats did. That game counts just as much in the standings as the H2H. OU has that loss to Notre Dame but the Irish beat Stanford who beat Oregon who smoked Kstate in their bowl. Now could Kstate beat Notre Dame in terms of 2012? Absolutely, what I just said doesn't in any way provide a convincing argument that they couldn't have but it does make things murky enough that we shouldn't penalize the Sooners for that loss to the Irish when we compare their season to Kstate's given that they didn't play. I put more weight on the H2H in bowl games like the '07 OB and others b/c the records are similar enough but are from different leagues w/ a dearth of common opponents.

Ha! I don't think we're doing anything noteworthy in hoops this year. Probably a very bubbleesque type of season.

But your record in 07 wasn't better. It was 11-2 vs 12-1 for Kansas. The common opponents results were identical at 5-0. The computers rated Kansas higher at the end. The only thing you have is the H-2-H. I'm disputing your quote that the difference in quality is "clear" when it's not.

Kansas was favored in the Mizzou game by (-1.5). The bettors, you know the folks putting up actual money, looked at the two teams seasons in their entirety and conculded Kansas was the better team. It didn't end up that way but it should show you that the idea Mizzou had the better year (or team) up to that point is baseless.

Are you still trying to one-up Mizzou over a season from six years ago? Just tell yourself you were better if it makes you feel better about the "pile of crap" (your coach's words, not mine) you call a football team since then.

Nobody gives a shit about your 2007 team outside of Kansas fans. Every player from that team is gone. Your coach is gone. Your AD is gone. Your fans are gone. Any modicum of respect your program may have had is gone.

Jesus Christ...you're the Hiroo Onoda of Kansas football.

Let him have his fantasy. He doesn't realize that the program was hit by two atomic bombs...little boy and fat man...aka Turner Gill and Charlie Weis. He's still defending his post in the Philippines...err...Lee's Summit six years later.

Don't say that, your coach was just featured as the lead story on CBS Sports yesterday after he was suspended for admitting he lied to the NCAA about his cash payments for hush money.

Ya it was against common opponents including H2H. I'm not penalizing MU for losing to the league champs when comparing them to KU when they didn't play the Sooners. As far as this discussion goes I don't have to assume KU would have lost to OU (although I think they would have), I just have to not assume they'd have won. Yep it's clear MU was a little better.

Also, I can't think of anything more irrelevant after a game's been played than what the spread was going in unless we're discussing national perception prior to said game, which of course we aren't. All it shows me is that KU was just a tad overrated. It happens even that late into the season. See Notre Dame last season. Can you believe you only had to lay 9 1/2 to get Bammer? Like taking candy from a baby.

For some reason college hoops seems dirtier than fball. IDK why, purely perception, probably not actually true. But many of these coaches come off as greaser used car salesmen types more than the fball coaches.

Haith's a weasel who'll live to cheat another day. It's remarkable how little he won there you'd have thought they were clean. He rivals Quin in terms of getting no bang for his buck.

IDK anybody over there anymore but many yrs ago (late 90s) I had a cousin's cousin (no actual relation to me) who was a walk-on on the KU football team when Terry Allen was there and ran around a little w/ guys on the basketball team. He would tell me about the ridiculously large big screen TV's and nice rides these poor black kids on the basketball team all had and how $ would appear in their athletic dorms out of nowhere.

If they are cheating in hoops at Miami where no one even knows the program exists I can't imagine it's not going on virtually everywhere else.

Who is the most sanctioned program in history again? (Here is a hint, they are in Lawrence, KS) I eagerly await Saul to remind you of the truth yet again.
