Sweet. Patriots need to upgrade their pass rush. We get to add one of the best passrushers in the draft to fold. Also get a player that can play in both 3-4 and 4-3. So far I have gotten all 3 of my targets for the Patriots in this draft. Winning.
New England Patriots select Vinny Curry, OLB/DE, Marshall.

I see the physical upside, but if I'm going to pick out a project QB, he has to have shown flashes. Incredible size and a good arm just aren't enough for the 2nd ****ing round for me. |

People may hate this pick too - who knows. Yes, the Chargers have Antonio Gates, but he is old and getting slow and has foot problems. This guy has everything you look for in a pass catching TE, and the Chargers love involving the TE in their offense. And the Patriots showed that you can put 2 athletic freaks at TE and make it work.
With that in mind, the Chargers select Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford |

Damn doomy is killing it for the Chargers. Reiff and Fleener, that would be a hell of a draft for the Chiefs.

By the way, we made 19 picks today. Good job guys especially with the weekend coming up - which naturally is slower.

Well, after the Eagles went QB the Bears were sure Fleener would slip to them at #49 but the Chargers surprised with a pick that, IMO, makes ZERO sense to a team that needs significant improvement in other areas where they don't already have an All-Pro.
After (stupidly) letting Greg Olsen go last offseason the Bears and Jay Cutler need help at the TE position. With Fleener gone it's on to plan AB (not B) and a prospect that should immediately step in as an every down player as a receiving TE AND a run blocker. The Chicago Bears select Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson.

The Eagles need some help at both safety spots, and this is a gut with good size/speed combo who has good coverage skills and is a pretty good tackler.
The Eagles select Markelle Martin, S, Oklahoma State |

I actually think that Fleener is a good pickup.
Gates is really slowing down fast and the Chargers could make good use of a 2 TE set for the next year or two, especially with Jackson likely gone. Fleener's a great pick; I think KCMan is just pissed because you got his guy. (But seriously, Osweiler in the 2nd round remains just silly...)

I agree that there are other guys that could've helped the Chargers as well, but that doesn't mean that Fleener can't be just as useful.
