Neighborhood watch captain shoots innocent black youth and doesn't even get arrested

This is some ****ED UP SHIT, they aren't sure if the racist neighborhood watch idiot should be arrested? If anything, local gangs might take notice of this and start shooting up that neighborhood or just random white neighborhoods. I could never live in the south, it's ridiculous. The guy shoots an innocent teen walking to the store to buy skittles. Should be life in prison, that's cold blood man.

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - The family of a 17-year-old African-American boy shot to death last month in his gated Florida community by a white Neighborhood Watch captain wants to see the captain arrested, the family's lawyer said on Wednesday.

Trayvon Martin was shot dead after he took a break from watching NBA All-Star game television coverage to walk 10 minutes to a convenience store to buy snacks including Skittles candy requested by his 13-year-old brother, Chad, the family's lawyer Ben Crump said.

"He was a good kid," Crump said in an interview, adding that the family would issue a call for the Watch captain's arrest at a news conference on Thursday. "On his way home, a Neighborhood Watch loose cannon shot and killed him."

Trayvon, who lived in Miami with his mother, had been visiting his father and stepmother in a gated townhome community called The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford, 20 miles north of Orlando.

As Trayvon returned to the townhome, Sanford police received a 911 call reporting a suspicious person.

Although names are blacked out on the police report, Crump and media reports at the time of the shooting identified the caller as George Zimmerman who is listed in the community's newsletter as the Neighborhood Watch captain.

Without waiting for police to arrive, Crump said, Zimmerman confronted Trayvon, who was on the sidewalk near his home. By the time police got there, Trayvon was dead of a single gunshot to the chest.

"What do the police find in his pocket? Skittles," Crump said. "A can of Arizona ice tea in his jacket pocket and Skittles in his front pocket for his brother Chad."

Zimmerman could not be reached for comment on Wednesday evening at a phone number listed for him on the community's newsletter.

Crump said the family was concerned that police might decide to consider the shooting as self defense, and that police have ignored the family's request for a copy of the original 911 call, which they think will shed light on the incidents.

"If the 911 protocol across the country held to form here, they told him not to get involved. He disobeyed that order," said Ryan Julison, a spokesman for the family.

"He (Zimmerman) didn't have to get out of his car," said Crump, who has prepared a public records lawsuit to file on Thursday if the family doesn't get the 911 tape. "If he never gets out of his car, there is no reason for self-defense. Trayvon only has skittles. He has the gun."

Since Trayvon, a high school junior who wanted to be a pilot, was black and Zimmerman is white, Crump said race is "the 600 pound elephant in the room."

"Why is this kid suspicious in the first place? I think a stereotype must have been placed on the kid," Crump said.

I was very surprised to hear this yesterday. Don't know what to think of it, other than they MUST have more and better evidence than what we have seen so far. I've also heard (Sean Hannity) that GZ has more evidence, including a possible tape of the incident, which has been kept out of the public. Who knows. This is going to be interesting, and scary. If this guy walks, FLA burns.

I think the outrage is at the lack of caring on the part of the press. If it were reversed and a white supremacist organization were on the offensive making such statements, it would be bedlam. I hope you are right that nobody takes these guys seriously. I don't think anyone is going to go out and gun down Zimmerman, but this type of rhetoric serves to fuel the fires that start shit like the LA riots.

Zimmerman didnt give Treyvon a fair trial, but I hope Zimmerman gets one. Regardless of how I feel about him, everyone deserves a fair trial. Most of the people who are complaining about Zimmerman being convicted by the liberal media, are the same people who had no problem with the liberal media convicting OJ...regardless of how we all felt about him being guilty, its the same situation. The sad fact is this case brings out the worst in people, not the best.

The black panther party was created during a time when black people were still under Jim Crow laws . It was a social and political reaction to the racism in our society at that time. The KKK and Skin head groups were not created due to any social or political hardship...simply out of hatred. But yes, I agree with you , today's Black panther party has some serious issues. You cant say the type of thing they did and not be held accountable or labled a hate group. Its a different social climate today, than it was when the Black Panther Party was created, no need for the racist overtones in some of their messages.

The L.A riots were already brewing. If you listened to L.A rap music back then , you could hear it in the music. The police brutality in those neighborhoods had been going on for several decades. People had complained , but nothing ever happened. When they finally had the police on tape, and it looked like there was no way they could get off...and then did, two decades of pent up frustration set off the riots...this is no where near the same situation. The people worried about riots , should be more concerned with college kids or hockey fans rioting, than something happening if Zimmerman gets off....I just don't feel its the same situation or circumstances.

Interesting, and I think you are right about that. My wife is one of the few people I know who believe the verdict was correct. She was home with the kids and watched every minute of the trial. The more she saw the coverage in the media, the more it angered her.

FWIW, she doesn't say he was innocent, just that the burden of proof was far from met, therefore the not guilty verdict was correct. I wonder if the same happens here what the reaction will be though.

I along with most black people thought O.J was guilty (and still do). Most of the people outside the court house celebrating that day were from the L.A area. This is the same city where the riots had just taken place, due to the police being found not guilty. I think the reaction most people saw that day on T.V made it seam like ALL BLACK people were happy, when it was just more of a local reaction.

I'm 100% certain that OJ killed Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

However, I also remember watching Mark Furman take the stand and refusing to answer the question "Did you plant evidence in this case", so I can understand where your wife is coming from. After hearing that, it would have been difficult for me to vote to convict, even though I'm sure he did it.

That is what all of this is about. When you have everyone from the President to the Miami Heat calling for a trial, you have to appease the public.

In my opinion, the only reason this is in court is because of the public spot light.

Yes and no, I think. I think that's what finally got this case to an arrest, but I think quite a few prosecutors would have charged him based on the evidence to begin with.

“I believe it was an accident, I believe that it just got out of control and he couldn’t turn the clock back," she said. "I would ask him, 'Did he know that that was a minor, that that was a teenager and that he did not have a weapon?'” she added.

Special prosecutor Angela Corey announced Wednesday at a news conference in Jacksonville, Florida, that Zimmerman was going to be charged with second-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

"We did not come to this decision lightly," Corey, who was appointed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to re-examine the case after public outcry over the initial decision not to arrest Zimmerman, said at a news conference in Jacksonville.

Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, who took the case late Wednesday after Zimmerman's previous attorneys withdrew, said his client would plead not guilty and that he would seek his release on bond. Zimmerman, 28, was scheduled for an initial hearing Thursday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

O’Mara said on TODAY he was surprised the prosecutor brought second degree murder charges against his client.

“I was. Again I’ve only seen the evidence that has been presented through the media. But I was surprised that they charged him at that level," he said.

Martin's mom suggested that Zimmerman, who claims he killed Martin in self-defense, should apologize if he is remorseful.

“One of the things that I still believe in: A person should apologize when they really -- when they are actually remorseful for what they've done,” Fulton said.

It is possible, I just find it a little bit interesting that they've had the same amount of evidence since the beginning and it is just now coming to an arrest.

Call it a conspiracy theory but I'm inclined to believe that someone made a phone call to make this happen.
