Neighborhood watch captain shoots innocent black youth and doesn't even get arrested

http://news.yahoo.com/family-florida...044537742.html

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - The family of a 17-year-old African-American boy shot to death last month in his gated Florida community by a white Neighborhood Watch captain wants to see the captain arrested, the family's lawyer said on Wednesday.

Trayvon Martin was shot dead after he took a break from watching NBA All-Star game television coverage to walk 10 minutes to a convenience store to buy snacks including Skittles candy requested by his 13-year-old brother, Chad, the family's lawyer Ben Crump said.

"He was a good kid," Crump said in an interview, adding that the family would issue a call for the Watch captain's arrest at a news conference on Thursday. "On his way home, a Neighborhood Watch loose cannon shot and killed him."

Trayvon, who lived in Miami with his mother, had been visiting his father and stepmother in a gated townhome community called The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford, 20 miles north of Orlando.

As Trayvon returned to the townhome, Sanford police received a 911 call reporting a suspicious person.

Although names are blacked out on the police report, Crump and media reports at the time of the shooting identified the caller as George Zimmerman who is listed in the community's newsletter as the Neighborhood Watch captain.

Without waiting for police to arrive, Crump said, Zimmerman confronted Trayvon, who was on the sidewalk near his home. By the time police got there, Trayvon was dead of a single gunshot to the chest.

"What do the police find in his pocket? Skittles," Crump said. "A can of Arizona ice tea in his jacket pocket and Skittles in his front pocket for his brother Chad."

Zimmerman could not be reached for comment on Wednesday evening at a phone number listed for him on the community's newsletter.

Crump said the family was concerned that police might decide to consider the shooting as self defense, and that police have ignored the family's request for a copy of the original 911 call, which they think will shed light on the incidents.

"If the 911 protocol across the country held to form here, they told him not to get involved. He disobeyed that order," said Ryan Julison, a spokesman for the family.

"He (Zimmerman) didn't have to get out of his car," said Crump, who has prepared a public records lawsuit to file on Thursday if the family doesn't get the 911 tape. "If he never gets out of his car, there is no reason for self-defense. Trayvon only has skittles. He has the gun."

Since Trayvon, a high school junior who wanted to be a pilot, was black and Zimmerman is white, Crump said race is "the 600 pound elephant in the room."

"Why is this kid suspicious in the first place? I think a stereotype must have been placed on the kid," Crump said.

No, you prefer appeals to emotion over facts. The prosecution can't win on facts. They're only hope is appeals to emotion.

Furthermore, the prosecution only had what it had for evidence to work with too.

Trayvon may have tried to defend himself by going up to Z and figure out why a creepy stranger was up in his business. It was a dumb move and like I said, it's what kills Trayvon's case. But that doesn't mean there wouldn't be a similar situation where Z does the same shit, and the person being pursued pisses his pants because they don't have any idea why a creepy guy is following him or her.

It isn't speculation. Zimmerman was reaching for his cell phone while within arm's length of Trayvon. You do the math on how a person is supposed to react to that.

Quote:
No clear evidence he was using police powers. You're speculating. Another reasonable explanation was he didn't want him to get away and keeping his eye on him would help know where he was going.

Other evidence corroborates Zimmerman's story well enough for reasonable doubt.

Trayvon started a fight. He wound up dead because of his own judgement.
That is exercising police powers. His job was to observe and report. It's not like he doesn't know the rules. His gun training taught him that. His neighborhood watch training taught him that. I'm sure he learned plenty of that in his criminal justice classes.

You don't put yourself in the middle of an open courtyard in the dark. That's just plain stupid. Anyone who has gone through gun training should have much better self awareness than that.

Zimmerman put himself in a bad situation out of his own stupidity. He had plenty of options to not do so, and didn't.

It's unbelievable - Tardzilla 1501 cannot for the life of him understand the concepts of "innocent until proven guilty" or "beyond a reasonable doubt".

Time after time he spouts speculation and his own desire for Zimmerman to be convicted as proof of guilt.

I believe him to be a functional moron.

I don't know how many more times we have to go over this, dumbass, but Zimmy did NOTHING illegal up until the point the Holders People cold cocked him---

And it is the prosecutors responsibility he did anything illegal AFTER he was punched and held down on the ground and pummelled.

The prosecutor clearly didn't do that beyond a reasonable doubt. I know the judge is doing everything she can to get Zimmy convicted of something and I'm sure she has alot of pressure from the Obamugabe Regime or she's getting a carrot waved in front of her face, but Zimmy is getting railroaded here.

...and then says he agrees with my points on other comments during the trial and then is swayed again by the prosecutor whereby he returns to his original views on the case. If he were in the jury room, he'd have changed his mind multiple times....and create a hung jury. Unfortunately, I can see this happening with the jury too.

Every effort is being made by the powers that be to derail the inevitable acquittal.

I've said repeatedly, he should be found not guilty. That doesn't excuse Z for being a moron.

So, now you have to resort to lying about my "demonizing" someone when I have all along said I think both had their legit concerns including Trayvon being scared and it wound up in an unfortunate event as they misinterpreted one another.

It's only been very recently such as the past day due to other comments here and on TV that I have questioned that. Fact is Trayvon returned, did not call 911* and threw the first punch. Z literally DID NOTHING to Trayvon and DID NOTHING illegal. It's like blaming society for bad behavior which is so common today. That's called NOT being responsible for one's own actions.

You sir, are the demonizer and have been since day one. You are projecting here.

* That's the lesson I had to learn in my Laundromat Vigilante experience last Nov when a lady punched me. I tried to handle a situation on my own. The cop told me to always call 911 and not do that, even though I was not doing anything wrong.

Yeah, well Z isn't on trial for being a moron either. You just want to slip in your own demonization while you accuse others of it.

You know who's being a moron right now? YOU!

You recent posts seems to reveal you think there are still good points for doing so...from the prosecutions appeals to emotion in his closing arguments. Fact is you enjoyed the demonization of Zimmerman in that.

Now since we're speculating about the internal thoughts of Zimmerman. Let's do the same on Trayvon. Maybe psychologically he suffered from a death wish.

Well what would you do if there were that many break-ins ( posted earlier ) in the past six months ALL committed by blacks including some who lived in that complex? One place was Zimmerman's.

I'd take a look too. I don't think that's unreasonable. It's actually logical behavior.

If it were a bunch of Hispanics who had committed those acts, I'd take a second look at one of them too. Especially if he wasn't recognizable.
Why this is even a crime is beyond me. But that's what America has come to today.
