Gun Control

We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.

What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

Heh, then you wouldn't like my collection. With that being said, I don't plan on walking into a public place and lighting people up. Also, if I even get a hint of these clowns implementing a bunch of new regulations, I'll drop another 30K-40 on guns on the spot, for an investment.

Hang the murderer from the nearest stop light. Do that a few times and this shit will stop.

I am going to piss some people off by saying this (including my brother and father), but there is no reason to have 100 round drums available to the public. It's insane.

I also think that it is a little scary for a citizen to be able to sale to another person without checks. I have bought a lot of guns this way, but I walk the straight and narrow (short of a few Texas Holdem' Games). It should be very easy to do a quick check before selling a firearm, or require that it be done through a FFL. The FFL guys would love to make the extra cash, anyway.

I wouldn't mind if the CCL classes required a little more commitment, too. There were some idiots in my class that I wouldn't trust with a water pistol.

That is pretty much where my flexiblity ends, though.

That's not enough.

Anytime there is a violent law broken with the use of a gun the offender should be subject to torture before a painful, horrific death.

I can't think of anything farther below the American ideal than public executions and vendetta torture. I would hope that a large collection of conscientious Americans would rise up and oppose that vehemently. I would.

I was being over-dramatic.

What would happen if something happened to your child or wife/husband? Would life in prison be enough to deter the next murder?

weird that this happens within days of the end of the UN arms trade treaty negotiations.

Wonder how many more votes the batman incident bought the Obama admin?

I was thinking about that earlier today. It wouldn't surprise me to see some Dems milking this tragedy for all its worth.

And ABC news was first to try and tie the guy in with the Tea Party.

Aries and Notorious, its nice to see the sentiment I was expressing earlier in the thread about the amount of firepower people can get being echoed again. I would have liked to stick with this but on these topics it always turns to people feeling attacked and then being compelled and forced to "defend" a position they may not actually feel that strongly about, and where in actuality they were just trying to have open discussions about the topic, and not represent and/or being painted into a certain corner or stance.

The guy that was mis-identified was extremely pissed at ABC because of their screwup. He feared for his family's safety.

I hope he sues the hell out of them. There is no room for that kind of garbage.

Huge magazines have always perplexed me. Yay, let's shoot 35 bucks worth of ammo in less then 30 seconds!

I shoot a LOT, and I rarely break out my 30 rounders. Life would go on just fine without 100 round AR and 75 round AK drums. And don't get me started on bump-fire stocks......

What is your definition of an assault rifle?

Did you know that a .45 round is massively larger round than what the AK, AR-15, or Mini 14's fire (.223)?

Or is the point of contention the fact that it is a semi automatic with a magazine? A Glock .45 can hold 13+1 rounds while my "assault rifle" holds 20. Not a huge difference. The .45 is a MUCH larger round than the .223 that my rifle holds as well. The only real spot where my rifle has the advantage is going to be in terms of distance.

If anything... the .45 semi auto is far more "dangerous" to society in general than my rifle is yet rifles like mine are the target of gun control laws such as the now defunct assault rifle ban. Why should I not be allowed to have my rifle?
