We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.


What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

No it won't. The Obama regime and the Marxist Dems have no political clout with "We The People" at this point. With the economy in the sh**ter, Obama's continued 'political darts' not sticking (contraception, Romney's tax returns, anti-capitalistic attack on entrepreneurs etc..) and especially 'Fast and Furious'(assault weapon on the 2nd Amendment-pun intended). Plain and simple Obama is the 'King with no clothes on" and is at least starting to feel a draft of wind from "We The People". And has said so as much by saying there will be no policy changes in the future.

TBH, I would not see the purpose in licenses for specific levels. What would that class teach me about firing a .308 that I wouldn't already know from firing a lower caliber such as a .270? All I see that accomplishing is creating a bureaucracy where people are having to pay for licenses and fees creating yet another system for the powers that be to manipulate and/or abuse.

That said, I would not be opposed to some sort of safety course being required in order to own a firearm. Anyone with a CC license should be able to bypass that, along with any waiting period, as the CC course includes the safe handling of weapons. If a class of that nature is going to be a requirement though, it should be provided by the government requiring that certification.

I understand the needs of certain types of hunters. I think something that could be in place and potentially make sense is to prove a hunting license to purchase something that is that powerful. That may seem extreme to some, which I get, but again I am just throwing out ideas to gage where people are. All that said, this round though powerful, doesn't appeal to people other than hunters as I understand it. Correct? I am not sure how many can be fired within a minute, but unless I am way off, comparitively speaking to other guns, its not much. Essentially it requires skill for effective use as I see it.

Since we are using the .308 as the main example since it fits your (sniper rifle) range, power, accuracy, and rate of fire criteria I can tell you that there are semi-auto versions of the gun with a magazine capacity from 8 to 20 rounds. The fact that it comes in a semi auto configuration means that just like my Mini... it will go bang with every trigger pull as it automatically loads the next round.

As for having to show a hunting license in order to purchase the gun... I would disagree with that simply because it is not used strictly for hunting but also for recreation. People use .308 in match/competition shooting and it makes for an excellent long range target gun.

I would agree that thing is certainly the more extreme end of the spectrum. On snipers I do see the appeal and challenge that comes with them when people want to use them at the range. Some people shoot baskets with a ball, others shoot targets with guns. No biggie to me. But what I will say about snipers (I may use that term too loosely, I think of looking through a scope for precision kills) they seem like something that really has no place outside of a shooting range. But it is the same with the .308 you mentioned, in that it requires training and skill for use and not really appealing to criminals.

The .50 cal can also be purchased in a semi-auto config. There is still a place for a gun like this in the hunting world for large game such as bears, buffalo, and moose. In other parts of the world they can/are used for Elephants and Hippo. The skill in this gun though comes from placing your round and understanding variables like windage, ballistics, and the coriolis effect.

He didn't just surrender as first reported, he tried to slip out and pass himself off as SWAT. He was wearing a black helmet, gloves, and body armor, and basically did look like the local SWAT officers. Fortunately, something (not disclosed yet) that he was wearing was not a standard piece of equipment SWAT wears, one of the officers stopped and asked him about it, and figured out that he was the shooter.

There are more men running around with firearms (unregistered) then you could believe...You can't throw a rock without hitting one. The thing the "average" American doesn't realize. Shootings don't make the news outside of Iraq.

Here's the way I see Gun Control much like Universal Health Care....

I don't want the Federal Gov't, anymore involved in my day to day life then they already are. My reasoning ? I worked for a Federal Agency for 18 yrs., I witnessed more stupidity during that period of my life I walked away 22 months shy of retirement. From the out of touch Central Office to people promoted based not on skills but on race, sex and a willingness to move to a new location. The answer to fixing anything is certainly not the Feds getting involved....want some examples ?

Look at DHS and TSA, almost monthly one of those graduate monkey's from rent a cop school do something stupid in violation of not only DHS policy, an Americans rights and in some instance's down right criminal.

Study some of the screw ups from BATF/DEA...How much money has the Fed's dumped into The War on Drugs ?....BTW we're losing that war.

Iraq/Afghanistan...Billions dumped and wasted by DoS on reconstruction projects.

The Postal System....How's that working out ?

No, there needs to be no more Federal Gov't. involvement. They can't enforce the laws already on the books.

Empower the States to to regulate firearms within the framework of current Federal Laws like the founding fathers envisioned.
