Gun Control
We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.


What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

Not according to my copy of the Constitution.

The right to bear arms is a special case in that it is singled out in the Bill of Rights. Transportation rights aren't addressed.

To not be? I am not an owner or expert so I would rather know what owners think is responsible and what isn't. Not trying to pick a fight or anything just legitimately what the consensus is, if there is one. It does seem most think safety instruction is really important though.

I've had two friends post that on Facebook so far, and I'll repeat what I said there. It's incredibly inaccurate to equivocate the current US with Stalin's Soviet Union, Hitler's Germany, Mao's China, Pol Pot's Cambodia, and Idi Amin's Uganda. Compare us to Canada, the UK, and Australia - countries with which we have something in common - and then maybe I'll listen.

Plus, I haven't looked it up yet to verify, but a friend-of-a-friend replied that Germany's 1938 law did the opposite of how it's described here. I'll let you know what I find, if I have time to research it.

Yep, I know. Hence the research. I only have a few minutes, so here's the quick and dirty version.

If Wikipedia is to be believed, the 1938 act certainly didn't "establish gun control"; on the contrary, it looks like it added more exemptions. It did prevent Jews from owning guns, but doesn't mention gays, gypsies, union leaders, Catholics, and so on, which is the implication.

I think in this example of the picture it's more a product of the characteristics of each city such as the school systems, drug use, local economy/culture and population density. Among other things as well.

That is a .45 caliber handgun correct? I specifically was talking about the high powered guns like the AK-47 type guns or a sniper rifle. I get you wanting a handgun. But IMO I think smaller firearms are sufficient and regular citizens don't need assault rifles and other high powered weapons. I would say I don't mind it being in their house, but obviously people could buy them and take them whereever they want.
You realize one of the best sniper rifles is a deer rifle, right?

In one year, people used Guns to murder 35 in Australia, 39 in England and Wales, 194 in Germany, 200 in Canada, and 9,484 in the United States
